Re: Replacing Rear Drum Seal
After pulling the lock ring drop the drum assembly from a couple feet above the floor onto a piece of cardboard and the momentum of the bearing will push the seal out. May take several drops and even...

Re: Fact or Fiction: Headlight Lens Gasket
I had my reflectors re-silvered 10 years ago. I just opened one up for the first time late this summer to replace a bulb. They looked like I just had them done.
Using cork gaskets.

Re: Can't message, Can't reply
Not so sure it's a waste of time. There are lots of scammers that are trying to take folks for a ride. If a scammer were to post 10 times the odds are pretty good that a member or two would see that...

Re: My First Model A - Questions
Nice looking car. I get up to your area on occasion to visit my son who goes to school at The Mount in Emitsburg.
I can see where good brakes would be pretty important when you take a drive up into...

Re: Paint v/s Japaning
This is what I use on my carburetors. Leaves a glossy finish rather than a a more matt one as original but it holds up really well against gasoline.
A couple of coats of the high heat paint, let...

Re: Babbit job
Folks doing that type of work on engines probably have a couple shipping companies that they use often for shipping engines. They most likely can set up the shipping for you and all you need to do is...

Re: We want our "A"
Dang that is a steep driveway. Once you get it running make sure the brakes are good for the trip out of the driveway!

Re: Radiator and crank guide question
That's unfortunate. I'm guessing the person who installed the pressurized radiator modified the crank guide with a hammer. Since you plan on going back to stock and will fix it then just keep your...

Re: Lite rust inside block
Your choice but now that you have the rust taken care of and refilled with a 50/50 mix of distilled water and antifreeze leave it in there.
Seems to me the rust inhibitor your using isn't up to...

If power is only needed for the light then problem solved. However I think your idea is rather clever.

Re: Trailering ‘28 Model A Phaeton
I've used my AAA a few times over the years for breakdowns on my modern vehicles. Never used it for a vehicle that we weren't actually driving.
Just trying to help keep everyone's rates reasonable.

Re: Where do I go from here??
Nice car.
Welcome to the Barn.
Since your not going to be driving it until spring I would suggest leaving the wife's car sitting outside and putting the A inside in her spot. Okay maybe putting...

Re: Zenith Carb Questions
To really get the carburetor clean inside and out you will need to soak it in carburetor cleaner. You can purchase a 1 gallon can/kit from most any auto parts store. The can has a metal basket inside...

Re: Filling Pits on Leaf Springs
Ron I would give the J.B. Weld a go. The amount of flex in the small localized area of a pit would be very small.
Just as a side note. To combat sagging of an epoxy on any areas that are not flat I...

Replace the rope seal in the pan before you put the pan back on.
Check the front motor mount bolt (I believe it's the left one) to make sure the threads are sealed and not a contributor to your...

Re: Visual Diagnosis, Maybe....
Not a whole lot one can tell from pictures of an assembled lower end.
I can see that some of the pistons have shims showing but they don't look like factory ones to me. Seems fairly clean.
At...
