I've had the same pump on my engine for many years.

Re: Runs great until it heats up

Check the primary resistance on the coil. Mallory is notorious for providing the wrong coil. With a 12v system, you'll want a total of about 3.5 ohms resistance.

Re: Just won't fire up.

I just had a similar problem with my car. Had a hard time starting unless I poured fuel down the carb. Some times it would start just as I was releasing the key. Charged the battery, end of the...

Re: Holley 94 jetting question

I second idle screw adjustment. How far are they turned out? Should be about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 turns.

Re: "help"

Does the piston have 4 rings? If they do, I never use the 4th ring. You'd be surprised how much extra drag they cause.

Re: '35 Radiator / water out the tube

Makes no sense to say you have too much flow at idle and not at higher speeds.

Re: '35 Radiator / water out the tube

Easy test. Install the thermostats again and see what happens.

Re: Manifold vacuum at idle... vs without...interesting observations

Your observations are spot on. At idle, the engine receives a less dense mixture and also there is some exhaust dilution due to cam overlap. All this means the engine needs more spark advance to...

Re: Manifold vacuum at idle... vs without...interesting observations

No myth involved. Ported spark was developed to reduce exhaust emissions. I worked on engine development in the auto industry in the 60's and 70's. Ported spark was a way to reduce hydrocarbons...

Re: Iola old car show

There is a barn down by the road. The pancake place is a steel shed. I was confused as to what you were talking about.

Re: Iola old car show

This pole barn is merely a large metal shed. No treasure.

Re: The new 1940 Ford Book is now available

Ordered my book last night even though I don't have a 40. I have a 39 DeLuxe and there is a book for 38 - 39 models from the V-8 Club. Well worth having.

Re: Initial start on new engine

I would pull the plugs, put some oil in the cylinders and crank the engine a few times. Then continue to crank until you get pressure. Install plugs. Do not put anti-freeze in initially. Use just...

Re: Is it normal to build an engine test stand?

I have 3 test stands. Keep one used engine up and running to test rebuilt carbs and distributors. Always nice to know you have good units when starting a new engine.

Whether electric or engine driven, the hot air goes in to the engine compartment. No difference. As VeryTangled has said, anything you can do pull the air through the radiator will help. I put a...

I've been running my 390 Holley without a choke for over 20 years. Of course I don't run in the winter.
