If you need to drill it out at all, use a left hand drill bit, run of course in your drill backwards. Sometimes you can get the bit to bite into the stud and reverse it without further work.

Well, I too wear gloves driving my A. They are white white and the person behind me can see them well when I am signalling for a turn. Especially true when driving is decreased light.

You will get the same affect, increasing the engine speed, when you have a Wolf Whistle and pull it open... the engine speeds up... as you have introduced more air, just as the OP is experiencing.

Yes. It can be a bugger to get it seated just correctly. But the screen does help keep crud out of the gas line.

The bolt is sized on the outside diameter. The nut is actually sized based on what size bolt fits into it... thus the diameter of thee inside threads, not the outside threads.

I have welded up the rods and filed them back to a slight point. Worked quite well... but yes, you need to remove the rods to do this fix.

It is really an arbitrary position. It depends on the carburetor choke driver and its seated position. They are not all the same due to how far into the carburetor one tightens the driver seat.
