Re: Bolt Sizes

The oil pan bolts are 5/16" - 18, 3/4 in long. The lock washer is 5/16" Originals were cad plated.

Not sure which big bolt you mean? The one that holds the pully? If so, it is 5/8 - 18, 1 in....

Re: How many characters in '50 ford vin

These vehicles did not have a VIN, per se. They had a serial number. On a 1950 Ford, the serial number should appear stamped on a metal plate and on the frame on the passenger side, possibly on the...

I'm guessing we will see it again in Franklin Tennessee at the 2022 Eastern National Meet.

Re: just a question

It was just some spam - nothing to do with the thread. Moderator deleted it after Mart reported it.

Re: Massachusetts YOM plates?

Frank is correct. There was no plate issued for 1950. The 1949 plate was revalidated with a windshield sticker.

Re: '37 Ford pickup....

Tom,

I hate to ever second-guess you, but I was under the impression that the battery on the '37 Pickup was on the firewall, similar to the passenger cars.

The engine is an 8RT that was used in...

Re: Trunk Latch Problem

There is no back seat - it is a business coupe. Removing the back panel will cause more problems that it will solve. Don't ask me how I know.

Pushing down on the trunk firmly as you try to...

Re: 51 226/6cyl Rear End Gear Ratio

Steve,

The standard rear ratio in a '51 was 3.73 to 1. Overdrive was 4.10 to 1. Fordomatic was 3.31 to 1.

An overdrive with a 3.73 to 1 standard rear is a great combination.

Re: point gap = dwell

Increasing the point gap will decrease the dwell angle. You are VERY close to the desired 28 degrees.

Re: 8BA oil canister bolts

The early 8BA filter was attached by head bolts. On later 8BA engines (possibly some late 1949) and 1950 and up the filter was attached directly to the head by three cadmium-plated bolts. They were...

My '51 Mercury was built March 13, 1951, at the St. Louis plant. It has the late '51 transmission and 8CM heads.

The first segment is Chicago, appears to be southbound traffic on Michigan Avenue. The second segment in the 40's appears to be New York City.
