I need help with the temperature gauge of my Ford 1937. It has a kind of red fluid . It is working in a wrong way (it shows overheating, but the refrigerant water is no too hot)

How it works?....

I have one like it. It was on a 31 shell, and both are originals (I am living in Argentina). The emblem was made of cupper, and has rest of blue paint. If that interest you, I can attach a photo.
