Model T or A?

Here is a picture of my wife's aunt taken in the late 20s or early 30s standing by a Ford which probably belonged to her husband.
Her husband and all 3 of her brothers were Ford mechanics most all...

Re: wheel ID help.....

So.....the '42-'48 Fords had 16" and the Mercs had 15"?
It's been a long time and I kinda forgot!
I have a pair of '50 Lincoln wheels (15" X 6") and they don't have
the slots.
They don't have...

Re: Help in info on 3 sped manual trans. for 55 For

Ashoe,

Is the O.D. tranny original to the car?
From what I understand, the tailshafts (at least on the HD T-85 trannys) used in the T-Birds were unique and quite sought after.
If the O.D. is...

Re: 3 Speed Trany Identification

They look like your run of the mill 3 speeds from about '55 or '56 to '62 when they came out with the fully synchronized trannys.
The best part about these trannys is that they have a larger...

Re: 1956 Fairlane Club Sedan needs...questions.

What a nice car to have! My wife and I were married in '61.
Her Uncle, a longtime Ford mechanic let us take his '56 Club Sedan on our honeymoon. It was coral and black with a 312 and AT. It was in...

Re: 56 t-bird standard tramission

I have a T-85 O.D. tranny out of a '58 big block Ford. I would sell it. However, I remember talking overdrives with a guy who had a '56 T-Bird and he told me the tailshafts on the T-bird T-85s are...

Re: 1954 Mercury station wagon rearend

How much wider can the '55/'56 rear be? I hear that it is common to use the '57/'59 Ford 9" rear in everything back to '49.
Just curious.
I do have a '55 Merc rear that has been outside for years...

Re: transmission interchange question

Here is a comparison of the typical '49 to '54 Ford tranny with the R-10 OD to the much heavier T-85 and R-11 OD.
The T-86 was a top loader tranny with basically the same R-10 OD unit mated to it...

Re: transmission interchange question

I successfully mated a '49 R-10 OD unit to the back of a '56 Ford side-loader 3 speed because it had a large countershaft and I preferred it to the early T-86 tranny.
A couple of things I ran into...

Re: transmission interchange question

Are you talking overdrive or non-overdrive?
In my opinion, the 49 thru 54 overdrive tranny (which is bacically the same as the 49-62 non-OD tranny is better than the 55-64 T-86 OD. BTW, I once...

Re: 8 inch rear-end

I think the '57 to '59 Ford 9" rears were among the narrowest and were a direct bolt-in for the "shoebox" Fords, the '63-'65 Falcon/Comets and the '65' and '66 Mustangs.
' course, how many of them...

Re: 8 inch rear-end

The Maverick should be the same width as the '63-'65 Falcon, '63-'65 Comet and the 64-1/2-66 Mustang which is about the the same width as the full size Fords from '49 thru '59. The '66 and up...

Re: 1949 F2 Pickup

Wow! I sure wish we could find "clean" trucks like that here in uppa N.Y. State!
I am partial to the '48 - '50 models.
I loove yours!

Re: 4 speed truck transmission

I had a '50 F-1 in which I changed out the 3-speed in favor of the "crash-o-matic" non-synchro 4 speed by choice.
It takes a little practice to learn to "double clutch" but once you become...

Re: small block Ford to early Ford transmission adapter

I mounted a '54 O.D. tranny to my '75 F-150 when the truck was new.
The trucks and the 351 equipped cars use cast-iron bells which have bosses cast into them where the early tranny boltpattern holes...

Re: 1969 351w windsor

The 351 uses a cast iron bell which is the same as '65 up Ford pickups, including the sixes. Shouldn't be too hard to find.

Re: Wanted 56 to 64 Overdrive Parts

Since its prior to '55 and presumably a "sideloader", I would assume it is the regular old Ford tranny; neither a T-86 (but better) nor a t-85 (not as heavy duty).
They are good trannys and will...
