AA engine splash pans extra hole

I see after Oct 1929 the engine splash pans, per the Judging Standards and Restoration guidelines, only have the rear side of the pans use the oil pan bolt at the rear to hold them up from the bottom...

Re: Cast Iron drum brakes - Restoration finish?

I see the POR15 in a spray can costs almost $30. It does sound like it has a very good bond and is durable. I watched some videos and they do stress using metal etch or really good metal cleaner...

Re: Cast Iron drum brakes - Restoration finish?

Radiator paint is another idea, but the drums can get very hot and it may not hold up.

My current old drums have so much built-up rust that pieces flake off just touching them. I am also still...

Re: Cast Iron drum brakes - Restoration finish?

Cast Iron drum brakes - Restoration finish?

I looked in the latest MAFCA Restoration Guidelines, but I could not find information on how to correctly finish the drums.

I know originals for my 1930 were steel, but the guidelines do allow for...

Here is a picture of the door pulls from the garnish above the door panels. Same as Fordor.

The top 2 are chromed pot metal and have some uneven areas and gouges that look like they were made...

Re: 1930 Cabriolet top or upholstery question strips?

And now after a very long wait and effort there is a top with the original reinforcing done as rectangles like the factory photo including at the rear landau. Waiting to see if judging reacts to a...

Re: 1930 Cabriolet top or upholstery question strips?

After much research, those 3 black strips in the start of the post are intended to tack down from the front header wood over the bows on top of the inside of the top fabric below the padding material...

Re: 1930 Cabriolet top or upholstery question strips?

Eystein,

Thank you for extra details. That is very interesting about the lower stud reinforcing. I wonder if I could take just enough of the double curved LeBaron piece to make two small squares....

Re: 1930 Cabriolet top or upholstery question strips?

I sent a PM. I ordered this 1-2 years ago just before LB went out of business so I could not ask them questions.

Re: 1930 Cabriolet top or upholstery question strips?

Thank you all for the responses. Those black strips really do not make sense based on all I see and they did not seem to be included in the packing slip of items included.

Eystein, Thank you for...

Re: 1930 Cabriolet top or upholstery question strips?

I have this kit and do not have any idea what the black strips are for? They sent 6 of these. These are not the strips that hold the rear curtain up, those are not shown in the photo.

The smaller...

1930 Cabriolet top or upholstery question strips?

Hi,

I received an old LeBaron Bonney upholstery kit for my 1930 68B and it has 6 of these material stripes, 3 per side? They are about 1-1/2 inch wide and 59 inches long and I have no idea what...

Re: Cabriolet triple hinge pin question - swedge or peene?

Thanks for that idea. I don't have that type equipment and was thinking on the assembly line they must have put these pins in and done something quick and simple to hold them in.

Maybe not, but...

Cabriolet triple hinge pin question - swedge or peene?

On the Cabriolet top there is a pin (attachment shown) to hold the #2 bow into the triple hinge. This pin goes into the hinge from inside the car.

It can slide or vibrate out and could fall out....

Re: 1930 Cabriolet wood belt rail question

Thanks for this update. I will not put padding on the belt rail wood and will get out the sander/planer to round the edges.

The guidelines book says the triple hinges were NOT removed prior to...

Re: 1930 Cabriolet wood belt rail question

Thank you for this. I will pad the rail to round it some with some cotton padding, and check the belt wood as you suggest. Good advice.

Re: 1930 Cabriolet fixed seat package tray question

Thanks. I cut the extra board off and re-glued the fabric to match the metal tray and it is OK now. I think the long board I received was for an adjustable seat. The 3 brads are what holds the board...
