Re: Front tire excessive wear

Thanks, does anyone know what the caster angle, camber angle, king pin inclination, toe out on turns, and spring height specifications are for a Model A?

Re: Front tire excessive wear

Thanks guys for your suggestions. Brian T, I looked at the space between my backing plates and the tie rod ends, and it is equal on both sides. Jayvee34, I've been taking some measurements to see...

Re: Front tire excessive wear

On the first set of 4 tires I had, I rotated them and burned through all 4 after only a few thousand miles. It's cheaper to replace 2 tires at a time than all 4.

I wonder if the trunk I have...

Front tire excessive wear

Man, my Fordor blows through front tires crazy fast. I've tried he following: I straightened the axle to remove a bow (someone must have towed it from the center of he axle in he past). While off,...

Re: Ford "steel-spoke" wheels vs. regular wire wheels

Interesting. So it would follow that with screw adjustable spokes, the ones that are carrying the load are the ones on the top of the wheel. The weight of the car is hanging from the spokes on the...

Re: Modern point set

Cracks me up when anyone calls them modern points. Points were last used in new cars, what, 45 years ago? That's modern? The best set of points for a Model A are Model A points. You can still...

Re: Bolt and nut orientation

I bet that if clearances didn't dictate how a bolt had to be inserted, that it would have depended on whether the worker was right or left handed on how the bolt faced.

Re: Carburetor leak

How steep is the driveway? If it's quite steep this might be normal behavior. If the carb gets tilted upward so that the level of the gas in the bowl raises above the top of the main and cap jets,...

Re: Engine not starting - checked everything - no more idea

If I read all this correctly, you are finding top dead center of the #1 cylinder by probing the piston through the spark plug hole because you may have a Model B front cover, and you are setting the...

Re: Generator not charging - maybe ?

Is that a 12 volt generator? The cutout will only close when the generator is putting out more voltage than the battery voltage. If you have a 12v battery, but a 6v generator....

Re: Engine runs smoother with open vacuum line.

Hmm. The GAV impacts the flow of gas into the well from which both the cap jet and the idle jet draw their fuel. I see a difference in the idle when I play around with the GAV. Open too much and...

Re: Radius rod rubber ball replacement.

The original design had a felt pad for catching oil that leaked past the rear main, and the socket for the ball had a hole that allowed the oil to lube the joint. I think that the replacement socket...

Re: Wheel Size regarding Radials

I've read that when people started collecting and restoring Model A's in significant numbers back in the '50s, 19 and 21 inch tires were not being manufactured any longer. Restorers had no choice...

Re: Can't get engine to idle down

This makes no sense. It's not possible for the throttle plate to be closed and to have the engine running at full throttle. Does your friend know which way to turn the throttle to close it versus...

Re: 1923 roadster running bad need help

Maybe check for a vacuum leak at the intake manifold. I imaging you remove the manifolds when the head was removed. Did you use a new manifold gasket? Did you tighten the nuts down nice a tight?

Gas seepage at steering column

Anyone have any suggestions for a quick fix for some slight seepage of gas where the steering column fastens to the gas tank? I know, I shouldn't mess with a gas leak, and I should pull the tank and...

Re: Front wheel bearing grease caps?

The center section of the wheel seals up tight against the brake drum, and the hubcap covers the exposed area of the outer bearing. It's not a perfect seal, but hey, nothing on the Model A is a...
