Hi Brent! The sand casting process is not a precision one, and it was my experience that my sand cast designs were at the mercy of the pattern maker's best effort and the actual casting process....

My rule of thumb is that Model A & Model B engines with stock cylinder heads will run well on compression gauge readings as ow as 50 psig, and no more than a 5 psig difference between cylinders.

Absolute compression pressure = (4.22x14.7)+14.7.
Gauge compression Pressure = 4.22x14.7.

We work with gauges. Scientists work with absolute pressure.

There needs to be some compression of the springs to enable the joint to take-up wear of the balls and cups, so the ball joints do not develop free play.
