Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

Watched the video . . . if that is it running in it's current tune, then it is definitely surging and missing quite a bit. But maybe that was just your first startup???

Re: So Which Flathead Do I Have?

I think we've all beat the 8BA horse enough. From my perspective, until somebody shows as a 49-53 '8CM' block, I won't believe there is one . . . and I'm surely not worried about it anyway.

Re: lost my best friend today

Hey Stan, first of all a big THANKS for sharing your very personal story . . . I'm sure it was not easy to write. But, I do believe that sharing the stories of your life with your best friend and...

Re: So Which Flathead Do I Have?

Seems we're splitting a lot of hairs here. As there are no known differences between the Ford block and the Merc in 49-53, a Ford block could be a Merc block or a Merc block a Ford block. There is...

Re: Cam bearing

I can see no reason that notches would have any value in the least. The cam bearing has about .002 clearance to the cam journal, do there is plenty of lubrication getting to the front thrust...

Re: Cam bearing

All three bearings have TWO holes, but the rear one must have one with the BIGGER hole up top - for the fuel pump pushrod.

If you didn't have two holes, you'd not have oil going to the main...

Re: fun

Thanks for sharing! It is all about being on the road for me . . . great for the heart and soul. There are plenty of folks who never drive their old Fords (for many reasons - including they don't...

Re: Top loader 3 speed parts condition help

The book from Mac VanPelt is a good book and he supplies a lot of parts that I use on my rebuilds. Also, Mike from ThirdGen is another good source (and there are others). These transmissions are...

Re: Top loader 3 speed parts condition help

The thrust washers are available in a couple different thicknesses. You need to let us know what year transmission and gear set - there are differences. I only build transmissions with the later 39...

Re: 9 in clutch

Probably worth checking out - as the fingers do need to be different for it to work correctly. I had a couple custom flywheels and clutch setups made about a year ago by RAM (good people), they...

Re: 9 in clutch

Be careful on putting a diaphragm clutch on . . . as there is usually an issue with the throw-out bearing not working correctly with the diaphragm fingers.

Most diaphragm pressure plates cannot...

Re: Engine Oil Drain PLug Flathead V8 1946-47-48 Engine

There is really no reliable way other than to pull the pan and clean it out. It isn't that big of a job - just a bit messy. This also gives you a chance to clean out the oil-pump screen and if your...

Re: V8 - 60hp question

I've never built a V8-60, so I'm not really sure how best to answer the question. But - if you have the engine apart, it surely will not hurt to thread and cap off the pushrod hole - as you're not...

Re: 1949 Merc 8CM engine

Why not take the darn thing apart, figure out WHY and WHERE it is stuck and do it properly? It might only cost you a gasket set (which isn't a bad idea anyway) and you'll know what you have.

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

I like the idea of LED bulbs, wish they were around when I did mine. I used an aftermarket setup - had new reflectors designed for the halogen bulbs that I have. Lots of options here - pick your...

Re: Turbo Flat Head

I don't know if it is a 'Big Turbo', but they can be highly effective if the system is correctly designed, things are sized to meet the specifics of the engine and usage, etc..

Keep in mind,...

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

Hey Chris - have you done a compression check on it? I would surely do that just to be dang sure the valves and rings are seating. Once I've done that, I'd be wondering about the carb - especially...

Re: 21 stud deck height, gasket thickness, etc. questions.

If you find gaskets from Cometic, make sure you follow their advice on surface finish and have the block lightly decked to match their recommendations. Also, "square deck" it and ensure the...
