Re: Stuck Valve ?
I had several stuck valves on both the 39 Deluxe and the 52 Merc. Stuck open so I could spray real penetrating oil into the spark plug hole onto the valve and allow that to soak down the stem....

Re: 1948 Canadian Ford F-47
Date stamp on mine is just beside the voltage regulator. Colour is red body with black fenders. A very common pattern on those trucks here.

Re: 1948 Canadian Ford F-47
Looks like your firewall is too rusty or dirty to see through but on my 49 Merc M68 the date is stamped in yellow just below that i.d. plate on the firewall.

Re: How I did it.
My 39, also six volts, spins over fast on six volts and back when it had a good coil started very well. My 52 Merc, with a big six volt tractor batter always turns over quite slow on the starter, way...

Re: Stories from the past
Great idea, and story too. Coming up on 50 years ago I attended the auction sale of our local Ford dealer. No doubt missed a lot of opportunities but I did bring home a truck load of good Ford...

Re: 1952 Mercury Diff Question
My 52 with the Mercomatic has the stock 3.31 axle and its quite comfortable cruising the highway here at 60 mph. I haven't pushed it any higher but have no doubt there is plenty of top end left....

Re: 1952 Mercury Diff Question
There were different axle ratios for the 52 Merc depending on if you had the standard, automatic or overdrive transmission. 3.73 for the standard trans. 4.10 if it had overdrive. 3.31 with the...

Re: off-topic, but...
I usually reject all new trends in the hobby but have to say I have whole heartedly embraced the "patina" trend with my 52 Merc. And I don't mean just keeping it rusty as it came out of the woods. ...

Re: Oil canister for EAB 52 Ford
A good welder could fix that bracket and a little paint would make it good as new. Make sure you check that lower hose on the filter in case it is old and brittle like mine was. Luckily mine broke...

Re: off-topic, but...
I like the appearance. They actually made the "engine" somewhat resemble finned aluminum flatheads. Still can't beat the sound of a flathead though. There is a good video of the 49 "Icon derelict"...

Re: Oil canister for EAB 52 Ford
Its been a while since I last changed engine oil and filter on my 52 Merc but pretty sure I used a suction gun to empty the used oil from the filter cannister. No way I'd be putting a clean new...

Re: Should I convert from 6 volts to 12 volts
If you hook the 12 volt booster cables direct to the starter side of the solenoid it does not matter about polarity. The starter turns one way only and will do just fine on 12 volts. I've done it.

Re: 8BA oil filter disconnected; trouble?
My 52 Merc flathead has the little brass restrictor block mounted right to the filter cannister. I'm assuming that is original. Never had a problem with any leaks there except the time the lower...

Re: Are these “widow maker” wheels?
I have not tried the GM wheels on the rear axle of the Mercury so it sounds like if I want to I will have to do a little work with a grinder. :D

Yes, carb icing can be a very normal thing depending on your climate or weather conditions at the time. And the procedure you used to solve the problem was right on. I've had to do it once or twice...

Thanks, I've been thinking about something like that or maybe a solar powered tender. Although at almost nine years old maybe my battery is reaching the end of its best before date.

Re: 6-Volt Jump Start
I don't know if this falls into the category of old wives tales but many years ago I was warned to never boost a six volt battery with a twelve volt battery or it could blow up the battery showering...

Re: 6-Volt Jump Start
I don't think the polarity makes any difference when boosting with a 12 volt battery. I just connect one cable to the starter side of the solenoid, other to ground and then touch the booster cable...

My 255 Merc engine in the 53 parts car also has numbers stamped in the top of the block near the back on the right hand side. I have no idea what they mean.

Re: Are these “widow maker” wheels?
For those that are concerned about using their "widowmaker wheels" as some of the older Ford trucks had, here is an option that worked for me. On the 49 Mercury M68, with the 17 inch wheels, I was...
