Re: Can we post about 1966 Ford Mustangs?

Tom in TN, Not being able to see the parts he's working with... a weak/loose pedal return spring would be my first guess. It may be wound around the upper bolt & hub the pedal arm hangs from, with a...

Re: Increasing RPMs when shifting Fordomatic into Drive

The carburetor has a 'fast idle' position in the choke mechanism but it only functions when the choke is engaged.

Re: Power steering pump alignment

You're welcome.
The photos & info was from a few years back, before we got this red '55 running. The hard part was finding the pictures again after having my old laptop die.

Re: Anti Theft Devices You Can Install

There may be an add-on automotive security system with the shut-down 'distance' function built in.

Re: Anti Theft Devices You Can Install

Run the car on an electric fuel pump with a toggle switch in an easy to reach but slightly out of sight position. The car will likely go a block or so on the gas in the fuel bowl.

My daily driver...

Re: positive ground vs negative ground

Just fyi... the '56 and earlier Y-block heads use a larger Temperature sensor than the '57 and newer. They are not interchangeable and effectively year matched to the dash gauge. '56 is...

Re: Anti Theft Devices You Can Install

There was a parole violator here several years back that in one afternoon stole or carjacked and wrecked three ordinary cars while on drugs and evading arrest.
It doesn't really matter what you're...

Re: Delay in throttle response when giving it more gas

If the plate hasn't moved in a while it may stuck and need to be cleaned and lightly lubricated.

If the timing marks advance when lit up by a timing light, that's a basic test.

Re: Delay in throttle response when giving it more gas

If either of the rubber diaphragms in the (dual) vacuum canister is leaking, the ignition timing can't advance correctly and you'll have a vacuum leak.

You can test them by connecting a length of...

Re: Anti Theft Devices You Can Install

Unless you're driving an armored car I wouldn't be playing little 'You can't take my car' games with someone with a gun to my head or knife at my ribs. They can have it.
A fuel shut off would at...

Re: Anti Theft Devices You Can Install

I'm guessing something very obvious might discourage a casual thief from considering your car before trying to hot-wire it.

A brightly colored wheel boot, steering wheel 'club' or a brake pedal to...

Re: Factory Floorboard holes?

IF a vehicle originally had carpet some of the edges could have been held down with little 'drive nails' thru the carpet into the sheet metal.
Not too likely in this case since the holes aren't...

Re: My 56 Transmission need rebuilt?

Here's an info page about other automatic transmission options for the '55 / '57 T-Birds.
I won't pretend to understand any of it, and I suspect the page hasn't been updated in a while.
Any newer...

Re: My 56 Transmission need rebuilt?

None of the AOD transmissions are a bolt-in swap. Some have less that needs to be changed or updated than others and all require a transmission/bellhousing adapter kit (approx $900).

The AOD...

Re: My 56 Transmission need rebuilt?

The air-cooled torque converter (and transmission) is probably hard enough to get internal parts for already.
The chances of finding 'performance' parts may be like that snowball in hell...

Re: Locate part

That sounds like you need a replacement.
There are a least a few places that sell old original (and also reproduction) parts.
I'm sure I don't know the best ones for the pulley you need or even...

Re: Locate part

What specifically is wrong with the one you have?
A groove where the seal in the timing cover rides on it?
Does it have a failed rubber layer between the hub and damper weight ring?
Or... is it...

Re: Fuel line check valve?

The work looks very nice but how close they are to each other makes me nervous.
If there's a way to relocate that fuel line farther away it could be an excellent idea.
Don't want to hear about...

Re: Question regarding 1956 T-bird damper details and timing marks

Trading off work is part of the way things work in the hobby. Or trading extra parts for other needed parts is good too.
I've got a distributor that one of the guys in our club wants, so in...

Yes.

Re: Crank Flange torque specs

There should be 3 thin reinforcing rings included with the new flexplate.
They fit between the bolt heads and flexplate.

Re: Question regarding 1956 T-bird damper details and timing marks

Too late to tell you now but, re-threading the small '57+ Temp bushing for an earlier temp sensor can be done without pulling the head, been there done that.

Valve adjustment? You definitely need...

Re: Power steering pump alignment

The first thing I did was look at a neighbors 'survivor' '57 Bird with power steering, then started looked closer at other club members T-Birds.
The B5SZ-3C511 bracket for '55/'57 T-Birds has a...

Re: Power steering pump alignment

Hoping I didn't re-state the obvious with my "T-Bird only" comment. Sometimes it's hard to know how much detail other folks know and who the comments are being addressed to or being read by.

The...
