Don't know what the 4spd would be worth, but the bellhousings are different between the two gear type trans, and the auto will also need the truck auto bellhousing.

Is it 6 or 12 volt, either case could be bad or corrorded battery cables, timing could be a little fast, or the starter bushings are worn making it drag more when hot.

I would suspect something wrong with a tooth on either the oil pump gear or cam gear.

Mabey ford thought it made the block stronger using smaller lifter holes, lots of tractor engines through the 60's used the same type lifter.

Small block truck mounts would have the stud to fit the slot in the mount pad, might not be in the proper place thought, a little fabrication might be needed.

Unless its listed as an HO, its I 5 4 2 6 3 7 8, it should have told with the cam which order to use, if you still have your old cam, you can compare lobes.

Picked up a 1956 ford car, 272 with 3spd, (non overdrive), no tag on the case, what would that trans be listed as, I know its not a T-87, but should have a number something like that, looks the...

spring placement

I got a 1947 ford 1/2 ton, and am rebuilding the frame, where does the clutch return spring hook to the frame, or does it hook the cab? springs were rusted off when I got it.

Was it the solid brass, or one with the needle bearing, they tend to get dry, then lock up.

It may also be the pilot bearing is trying to lock up on the input shaft.

U joints don't have to have loosness to vibrate, they can become dry and stuck and don't flex, one needs to remove the driveshaft and make sure each joint moves freely in both directions.

It could be the bushing in the rear of the tail shaft housing, but the driveshaft needs to be pulled to see.

Sounds like it doesn't have much or any compression from cyl's. being washed clean. Pull plugs, then pull the truck around the block in high gear. Put a ts of motor oil in each cyl. replace the plugs...
