The sump on that pan will probably interfere with your drag link. Your best bet is a Mercury pan. The sump is towards the rear or the pan. You will also need the Mercury oil pump pick up tube.

I will second Ford38V8's procedure for getting the air bubbles out of the bulb/tube. I hung my gauge up vertically overnight with the bulb down low and the cooper tube as straight as i could get it....

Update:
As you guys suggested, there was an air bubble trapped in the cooper tube/bulb. I hung the gauge with head higher than bulb for about a day, then cycled the bulb from hot to cold water...

My 39 coupe has never had the curved trim pieces as depicted in the attached photo in the red box. Are these pieces made of sheetmetal? Anybody have any photos of the pieces without the upholstery...

I just realized from your photos that there is more than one seat configuration in the coupe. You seat back is one piece and apparantly hinges from the top. My seat back is two separate pieces...
