I've used a pry bar or two to get the spring into the pocket, then lower the vehicle down and square up the bolt head.
Sometimes its a fight but it can be won.

Sound like you may have the Tudor bumper arms and not the coupe. I believe the coupe Body risers are the shortest at around 2 1/2"? not sure.
