Re: Where was my car built

On the firewall of my 48 Ford woodie is the aluminum patent stamp that is always replaced by "restorers". On this stamp in the lower right is a blank space that will have the abbreviated assembly...

Re: Woodie whatzit?

The four long pieces of metal are to hold the rubber floor mats. Once fitted, the edge of the mat slips under them. Long for the front, short for the rear.

Re: Car cover

Try the Canvas Shoppe in Flint Michigan (1-800-345-3670). I had them make a cover for my 1948 Woodie Wagon. Since they didn't have a template, they drove drove down from Flint (100 miles) measured...

Re: Cars with original radios

Wolfman Jack used to be on XERB and I know that was broadcast out of Tijuana on some tower that must have been 1000 feet high.

Re: Cars with original radios

I've had two people try and get the AM radio in the 48 Woodie to work with nothing but static. I also had the best radio shop here in Detroit get the AM/FM Thumbscrew in my 68 Charger working. When...

Re: Mercury build date

I tried the same thing on my 48 Ford Woodie and the best way to figure an approximate date is by using what you have. Check the glass. If it is original, that gives an approximate month. I don't know...

Re: New rebuilt carb no start help

Is the needle and seat assembly jammed shut? Sounds like no gas is getting into the carb - but I can't explain no "pop" or backfire with gas poured into the carb or a shot of starting spray.

Re: Holley 94

Having worked in the Holley Tech tent many years ago, I can't begin to tell you how much junk I looked at with "...my buddy sold me this or I got it at a swap meet..." Wrong parts, metering blocks,...

Re: yet another car show on tv.

South Beach Classics with the bald guy and with his plastic wife would make a used car salesmen from the 1950's blush. When you can see the orange peel on the car from a video, the paint isn't just...

Re: 47 Ford woodie cowl side antenna - Correct?

In the book "Famous Ford Woodies" by Sorenson, there doesn't seem to be a forthright answer to antenna location. On page 184, the picture of Gene Autry's 47 Mercury wagon has the antenna with two...

Re: 47 Ford woodie cowl side antenna - Correct?

I've got a 48 Super Deluxe Wagon and the antenna is mounted on the passenger side of the cowl exactly like yours. Two round antenna mounts about an inch apart. I have also seen the mounts on the...

Re: 1948 data plate/ patent plate

The re-pop plates don't have the space for the assembly plant. Your TC is "Twin Citiy" or the Minneapolis plant. My 48 Woodie has got LB for Long Beach. Frankly, I'd keep the original plate with the...

Re: How have you kept your engine warm at night outside?

I once worked with a guy that came from the northern area of Ontario Canada and he told me it wasn't uncommon for folks to simply light newspapers under the car to heat up the oil. Don't do this at...

Re: 1940 ford number on firewall

I own a 48 Woodie and also have body numbers stamped on the firewall. According to the Sorenson book Famous Ford Woodies, the number, 39633, indicates the car was a very early production model since...

John,

Dryer sheets (Bounce, Downey) apparently keep mice at bay due to aroma. As far as a tarp, I simply put a plastic sheet purchased at any hardware store for painting under the car to avoid...

Re: OT - But Must See: Drone Camera Coverage at Packard Plant in Detroit

Unfortunately, Detroit has a nasty habit of letting historic buildings simply deteriorate until they become part of the urban prairie that is so much a part of the city. The old railway station as...

Re: B-24's built by Ford in 1941

I just heard that the deadline was pushed to Oct. 1. GM was building transmissions there up until it closed due to their bankruptcy. Considering the taxpapers bailed them out, you would think GM...

Re: Source for usa made alcohol proof carb. & fuel pump parts

If you are running old rubber fuel lines, change them as well. Ethanol also breaks down the rubber in the hoses.
