Awesome Mart, That clears up the why part of my question. Can you tell me how the springs are situated on the bolts? Do they go in between the cab and the mounting wood?

picture or diagram of 40 ford p/u hood hinge
I am getting ready to reinstall my hood and got all the correct hardware. I need a picture or diagram of how everything attaches, shoulder bolts and all. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Wanted: 40 Ford P/U inner fenders
