Re: Stromberg 48

Re: tell a Model A related story
You have to feel sorry for the homeless and down-and-out people, but I became somewhat prejudiced against them when I worked at LAPD, right in the center of skid row in LA. One morning as I was...

Re: Split Pistons and Pin Clearance - need help
.004" should be very good on piston to cylinder wall clearance. I too run more clearance than most guys, but pin to piston clearance should just be a light "thumb-push" into the piston, with a light...

Re: lincon brakes
Lincoln and the '39-'48 brakes are both the same size, and can use the same drums. Adapters are available to put them on A spindles. Before commercial adapters were available we used a hard-seat...

Re: lincon brakes
Pay close attention to what hardtimes said. I've run both early Ford hydraulics and a combination of Ford & Lincoln. Both work very well, the only advantage of Lincoln's over Ford is a softer...

Re: A question for old guys
I'm right behind Richard in Anaheim at 83.8 years. I was in great shape at 76, could lift B blocks, etc. Then I had a major stroke, my whole right side is a half step above useless. BUT, I can...

Re: Tech Q ?
Good eye nkaminar! Lotta high-dollar equipment shown above.
Hardtimes, 4 mains? On a banger???
Short story on sludge. In '65 I was working for the City of LA. One night the foreman gave...

Re: Max RPM's
Ruth, no video, sorry. I am not technologically advanced. My Bonneville car is rear engined, and turbo charged, but still sounds pretty good.
nkaminar, I understand fatigue, but I drive mine...

Re: Max RPM's
I think nkhaminar is thinking theory, and has likely not run any performance engines. I run B engines with the 'C' cranks and no damper. The engine I have run the most still has babbitted mains,...

Re: Tech Q ?
You got a raw deal, but on a stock engine there was never an oil pressure ga., or need for one.

Re: Fuel pressure
I would think that it would work, but if you are running a V8, with Strombergs or such, a regulator wouldn't be needed.

Re: Quick change rear end
jetmek, not sure but it'll easily run 55 or so, enough to win several hill climbs.
Tim Ayers, Dan Iandola and I ran a 'Bart-built' QC in our lakester years ago. It was fabricated out of a V8 rear...

Re: Quick change rear end
We run one of Derek's V8 QC rears in our Bonneville lakester. It went together easily and we have had no problems with it. 167 MPH is the best time to-date.

Re: compression
Glad to hear the MMO amounts used. My 601 Ford tractor stuck a valve about a year ago, a pushrod popped out of place so it took some time and work to get it running again. I determined it was...

Re: Quick change rear end
I run an early Halibrand in my speedster. I drive on the street and run hill climbs so there is a definite advantage for me. John is right about modern QC gears, they are quite quiet. I run a...

Re: Power At Rear Wheels
I don't have one for a stock engine but years ago I dynoed my pickup with a mild 2-port Riley. It put 60 HP to the wheels. It was an electric dyno, so I could power the vehicle using the dyno's...
