Re: Setting points with dwell meter

Dwell isn't magic, and it isn't difficult to understand. The distributor has 360 degrees of rotation for the 4 cylinders of the model A engine. That leaves 90 degrees of rotation for each cylinder....

Re: Supercharging a Model A

I tried a turbo on Elvira (28 tudor), that was OEM for a VW Jetta. It gave me about a 20% seat of the pants performance gain. I used a motorcycle slide carb., which ran well right out of the box...

Re: Garage Hoist

No question, the best tool in the shop. Mine is a 4 post, bought about 30 years ago when they first became popular, and used about twice a week ever since. While both 2 and 4 post both have their...

Re: Spring........and electric blankets on the A

Probably just the heating blanket thrown over the hood would get you down to about 25, but I'd test it on a non freeze night, then measure the temp of the engine in the am. Just like the virus, you...

Re: Does anyone know this generator?

Or, just replace it with a common 12v alternator, and convert everything to 12volts. You may need help accomplishing this if you are not very electrical savy.

Re: Would there be any interest in a programmable electronic points replacer?

Or, just install a Honda dizzy with electronic module, centrifugal advance, and vacuum advance, then you will never need to touch that spark lever again and your timing will always be correct for...

Re: Model A cracked block

If you decide to weld, don't. Instead, TIG silicon braze it. TIG Brazing is much lower temp, and much better chance of success. If that is indeed rust through, and not a crack, then a bolt over...

Re: Model A 350/350 Virus

What is so great about keeping a Ford in a Ford? It's just a bunch of metal parts, and absolutely nothing sacred about it. That mentality is just an irrational state of mind. An engine is an...

Re: Model A 350/350 Virus

Think of it this way: If someone does the nasty on their original A and puts in a different drive train, or gawd forbid, an overdrive and hydraulic brakes, then your all original car just got that...

Re: 12 V alternator choice

Vince is right on...

I will add that most little Nippon alternators (the ones with a V belt pulley), have enough meat to stick it in a lathe and widen the groove to fit the stock model A belt. ...

Re: 12 V alternator choice

I'm thinking whether it is ALICE or SALLY, its got to be a bitch.

Either of those alternators will do the trick, even the small Nippon unit at 55 amps should handle the ACs components (fans and...

Re: “Do not use a file” to dress down breaker points

You know, they sell "Flex Stones" for this purpose. They cut better than a point file, and are easier to use. About the size of a point file, but made of a flexible plastic material, embedded with...

Re: Toe in adjustment

Well, that's certainly a novel thought, but totally wrong. King pin inclination only comes into consideration when turning. When going straight down the road, the king pin could be welded solid,...

Re: Toe in adjustment

People make a big deal out of toe in, it's not. Toe in is to take up any sloop in the front suspension, by letting the rolling wheels/tires, as they try to roll toward each other, keep all slack in...

Re: Clutch stuck

You won't be able to push that clutch peddle by hand! Either rig up a lever for more force, or get your #12 shoe on it.

Re: Ok, I've got a question for the Northerners....long.

John,

Get a mistress. No, not to keep you busy! Here is the plan; When your wife finds out about the mistress she will take that mini van and run, leaving you with lots of room in the...

Re: Model "A" Cars vs. Their Successors

Some might call you an oxymoron. That being, how could you drive only Fords and be a car guy??? Impossible!:D

Re: Pressurize a cooling system

Not necessarily so, on my V6 powered ccpu I have run an open cooling system for several years without even a hint of overheating, and never needs water added either. (It runs an aftermarket beehive...

Re: The Old Opportunity Motor

How about turning some adaptors to replace the babbit, adaptors are clam shells that go between the block and some insert bearings. It will become the goto fix, and you will get rich. Your wildest...

Re: Making an A axle steer easier

With the weight off of the wheels, you are only going to feel resistance from the steering components, and not the tire scrub resistance. (Note that this won't tell you much about the kingpin thrust...

Re: Is there such a thing as a 6 volt heater?

Get a under the seat hot water heater from an old car. They are only about 2" tall, and throw plenty of heat.

Re: Cracked Block

Don't tell the new car manufacturers this, they will have to stop using all those plastic parts in newer engines.

Re: Making an A axle steer easier

First off, you have done a beautiful job on your creation. I appreciate your creativity.

Steer easier? Lub the crap out of it, test with the weight removed from the wheels to find out if the...
