Re: Pump Gas for a Model A

On the other end of the spectrum, I maintain 2 chain saws, a leaf blower, 2 generators, a trimmer, a garden tractor, a snowblower, an outboard, and a Model A, all on straight 87 octane corn squeezins...

Re: dropping the pan

Why did they make the flange so close to cause interference with normal tools?
What tool did the factory use? (Rhetorical question)
What tool do the rebuilders use?

Re: Fuel Gauge stick increments?

During the 2 years after my cork sank and I got around to fixing it, this is the method I used. The question was limited to "Do I have at least 2 inches of gas?

The calibration then consists of:...

Re: dropping the pan

There's been numerous occasions fixing things where I needed to make/alter my own tools. Almost always has to do with access or clearance. In this case, what about buying the right size offset box...

Re: Car Show....CT

Wish the forecast was better:

A 40 percent chance of showers, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 57. Northeast wind around 6 mph becoming south in the afternoon.

Re: Seafoam

Not a problem for a Model A or a boat, but be advised that 100LL has lead in it, and will lead to problems with a catalytic converter if used in any more modern vehicle. It's dyed blue.

There are...

Re: Paint A Car With Rustoleum?

I'll jump in - it depends. But far less than 20-30%. I'd start with a few tablespoons per quart and brush it out on a piece of scrap, (you know, the clean flat piece of scrap you sourced exactly...

Re: Paint A Car With Rustoleum?

A few tips for home painting, mostly learned the hard way:

If you haven't painted much before, practice first. Paint your lawnmower or your wheelbarrow.

Tip and roll is entirely a useable...

Re: Oil drain plug

Pro tip:

If this happens on the road, before you drop the pan to change the oil, there are several designs of oil suction devices where you can suck it right through the dipstick hole. Rotary...

Re: Oh man. Now I canít even get my A to start or make a noise.

Take the battery out, charge it, then take it to a garage and get the battery load tested. I'm thinking you have either a bad battery from the get go, or a drain on the battery once installed.

So...

Re: A&L Parts. still in business?

Al, the founder has been gone now for about 20 years. His son ran the business in CT I think until COVID hit, or slightly before. He has moved and no longer sells retail, but still supplies Vendors...

Re: Headlight switch adjustment

Does the wiring harness exit the switch housing at the bottom, ie at 6 o'clock?

If so, I'd guess your switch rod is twisted slightly. Or the lever was re-attached to the rod with the alignment...

Re: Undercarriage Detailing

A few more thoughts:

Use bright lights, they show flaws.

In tough to reach areas, and areas the spray can't reach like the top of the wishbone, consider brushing the paint. Yup, more steps and...

Re: Undercarriage Detailing

There's lots of alternatives and opinions on paint, but lets narrow it down. If you aren't going to use a spray rig and are limited to easily obtainable spray cans, I've had very good results from...

Re: Undercarriage Detailing

I would expand this a little. Wipe down with solvent before sanding, you can drive grease into the sanding grooves, and that will cause issues with paint adhesion. Pay attention to fairing the...

Re: Steering arms

I bought a new pitman arm from Bratton's last October, part 5570, for $41.65. Works great. Don't forget wear can occur not only on the ball, but if the sector attachment bolt works the slightest...

Re: Hershey?

It's all about where the retail buyer took delivery, that is where the tax is due. A common carrier does not pay tax, so the car hauler, UPS, or FedEx doesn't collect sales taxes. And then if you...

Re: Hershey?

Sounds like Hershey has attracted the eyes of the tax man. But the sales were likely always taxable, it's just that no one collected it. If you buy a car sales tax is due unless you hold a valid...

Re: Where to get tough up paint?

I'd agree, but I've had decent luck matching gloss black on a 'close enough' basis. Depends on how obvious a location the repair is as well. Near the hood latches - frequent touch up, not so...

Re: Where to get tough up paint?

Tough -up paint? What a brilliant idea. If it could keep shopping cart scratches of your car I'm all for it.

I think it's akin to winning the lottery to find an off the shelf color to match...

Re: Why do you own a Model A?

My Dad bought what became my car in rough but runs shape, and he never did anything with it. I came home from college and had little to do in the evening, so I started to restore it. That led to...
