Re: Hot rod steering box

Whats benefit of the Hudson.
Hank, the benefit of a Hudson steering box in a '32 - '34 chassis is a roller sector, 17:1 ratio and the orientation of the worm gear and sector is the same as a stock...

Re: Disc brakes for wide-5 drums

I should have included more info in my original post regarding LZ brakes. I used Boling Bros backing plates and the appropriate width brake shoe, they offer both 1 3/4" and 2" shoes. They produce...

Re: Disc brakes for wide-5 drums

I know you said that you wanted to go to disc brakes, but have you considered using Lincoln Zephyr brakes. I installed '40 Ford brakes on my '37 1/2 ton, and I never felt confident in the ability to...

Re: Removing caps on '37 hubcaps?

I concur with what jimTN said , don't apply a lot of paint to the portion of the hubcap where the stainless steel cap goes on. I have used Variprime, made by Du Pont. Place the carbon steel in the...

Re: Magneto and belts

Hank, have you considered mounting the sheaves (pulleys) backwards, I know it's not an ideal situation, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do.
Tom
P.S. I typed that response without...

Re: Magneto and belts

Bored and stroked, I see the way you supported the extension shaft, that's a good idea and I may copy your method. What started the idea of a solid shaft was the original Vertex drawing ( the image...

Re: Magneto and belts

Bored and stroked, the image that I posted earlier was ment to show how I modified the '32 front crossmember to accommodate a dual sheave crank pulley. The vacant area is where I am modifying a...

Re: Magneto and belts

Kiwi, I understand what you are saying, but there is nothing to hold the extension on the center line of the shaft. I have given this a lot of thought and making the shaft solid from one end to the...

Re: Magneto and belts

Hank, as I stated earlier I'm using a Vertex mag also, and I was concerned that I may have problems too. I know you have spent a lot of money and time on your setup, I'm offering this as a last...

Re: Magneto and belts

Hank, yes Skip Haney is still in business. On a side note, I'm going to use some of the same components that you are, but with an angle drive. I'm going to dig those parts out and see if there is any...

Re: Removing Rust from the Block

Here is a link to a thread that I started on the H.A.M.B. This process worked for me, and is a lot cheaper than the commercial products. One other thing, this solution is NOT, I repeat, NOT an acid....

Re: Updated oil filter system

In addition to an engine oil filter, while you have the engine apart for a rebuild, you may want to consider a HIDDEN PCV system for you engine. Here is a link to a thread I started sometime ago....
