Re: 1954 Ford ring gear

CAUTION! While it is true that the converter front cover must be removed from the converter housing prior to removing the old ring gear and welding the new one on (to prevent burning/melting of old...

Re: 1954 Ford ring gear

I have a 1952 Ford 215 I-block 6 cyl with Ford-o-Matic that has the ring-gear mounted to the front cover and spot-welded on. My '55 272 V8 Ford-o-matic ring gear is the same way, but they are just a...

Re: Radiator frame mount spring?

Actually, there are two little springs (although they are only showing one in the shop manual illustration). Once the rubber pad is placed upon the front crossmember, you can then put the radiator...

Re: Engine colors and quick question

Color looks about right. I have an older version of the Ford red hi-temp enamel that seems to have a little more of an olive/orange hue to it which closely matches the original color, but most people...

Re: Tips on transmission removal 1954 Ford

The converter is front-heavy and the only thing holding it in place in the bellhousing is the converter hub's engagement with the front pump. If the trans is tilted slightly downward at the front,...

Re: Tips on transmission removal 1954 Ford

You have to get the converter away from the flex-plate in order54 to access the bolts that hold the flex-plate to the engine crankshaft. So in that scenario, the converter is laying in the bottom of...

Re: Tips on transmission removal 1954 Ford

On a '55/56 full size car, the last trans crossmember prevents you from lowering the whole trans + converter bellhousing as a unit. You actually need to push the trans further back toward the rear...

Re: Tips on transmission removal 1954 Ford

The '54 Ford has the same car frame as the '55 and '56, but the body of the '54 is different which may mean clearances for removal might be different, but under NO circumstances would it ever be...

Re: 55 neutral lock out

It is very common to feel a lot of slop in the gear shift lever when the rubber bushing has turned mushy and the metal shift link rod is worn down. Fix these problems first, then adjust your switch...

Re: 55 neutral lock out

Starter neutral switch on all '50's Ford cars is located near bottom of steering column. It may be out of adjustment if the two retaining screws are loose. But if it worked before and the screws are...

Re: Wiring Harness options

Back in the mid '80's I ordered an exact duplicate '55 Ford car wiring harness from someplace like "The Ford Parts Store" or "Concours Parts" for my '55 Fairlane sedan. Never had a problem with it...

Re: White walls. What's up with the Widths?

In the mid fifties, Fomoco contracted with firestone for their tires. The OEM '55/56 tires offered during tose years were; 670x15 and 710x15's with 2-3/4" wide whitewalls (on premium cars). Last time...

I thought I'd seen this posting before until I scrolled down and noticed I made a couple of replies over a year ago. But reading back over Gerry Dubois statement, he would have been more accurate to...

Re: How to install a heater valve

'54/55/56/57, Fomoco offered one of two heater control systems in full-size cars. The cheapest of the two utilizes a vacuum water valve on the intake manifold with a bimetallic vacuum thermostat...

Re: Horn Wire

Not possible for this application. The horn wire can't be pulled down lower than the spring-loaded button housing will allow it (which is maybe 1/4"). it has to be pulled out through the top.

Re: '54 Ford serrated hood washers

Fomoco made several variations of these bolts in '55/56
The longest ones with hole guide on the end of the bolt were used in door hinge and fender mounting applications.
Another type with same...

Re: '54 Ford serrated hood washers

Maybe, but you'd need to be sure they have the right thread and proper bolt length for the application.
In most cases, Fomoco used the fine thread 5/16" bolts for the doors and fenders. These...

Re: Horn Wire

If he needs to file the top of the steering shaft down, a pull-wire will just be in the way.
You can get even an old horn wire back down thru the bottom of the gearbox; I've done it numerous times....

Re: '54 Ford serrated hood washers

Those serrated washers (along with 5/16" bolts) were also used on the '55 car door and hood and fender mounts at some body plants where there was enough left-over bolts and washers from the previous...

Re: 2019 f150 5.4

Re: 2019 f150 5.4

Ford offered a 4.2 litre V6, a 4.6 litre V6 and a 5.4 litre V8 in the F150's of the era.
I bought my 2007 F150 new and never lost a drop of oil. Last oil change was 54K miles in Oct of this year....

Re: speedo gear-in tranny

Sorry everyone, Iwas confusing him with another one of the guys here that has a '55, but I went to his profile later and noticed he has a '57 Country Sedan wagon.
So yes, it is a 100% bolt in swap...

I have two '55 Fords and have had one '56 Ford hardtop in the past. None of the doors were right on them and I seriously doubt they were ever molested from the factory adjustment.
When you consider...

Re: Driver Door Sticking

Aside from checking the hinges first, I would look at the number of shims behind the striker plate. Ultimately, you want the "star-wheel" on the door lock assembly to fit squarely with the teeth on...
