Re: Filling Pits on Leaf Springs
If you are just interested in cosmetics, they make spring covers.

They might do the trick for you.

Re: Troubleshooting advice
That's a clever trick I never thought of. I've used a spray bottle on the exhaust of motorcycles for the same purpose. If it turns instantly to steam I know I have a properly firing cylinder. If...

Re: Troubleshooting advice
I know that Ed already mentioned it, but based on the symptoms you described I would double-check the points gap.

Re: Coupe Window Replacement
It has been a little while since I replaced that seal, but I seem to remember that there is an inner frame and the rubber is just squeezed between them.

Re: Coupe Window Replacement
All the major suppliers sell some form of "Window Seal" or "Window Setting Rubber." You size it, cut it with a razor, and close the loop with super glue. I warm the seal up before stretching it,...

Model A Christmas Ornaments
I hope it is okay to post this, but I found some nice Model A Christmas ornaments on Etsy. I have absolutely no connection to the seller, but I got a set and was happy with the product, so I thought...

Re: Wards Spark Plugs.
I'm sorry I can't answer your question, but I think you have a real treasure there...even more so that you have a functional set of four. That's awesome!

Re: Leather main bearing
I seem to remember that there was a story about a leather bearing emergency repair in an issue of The Restorer a few years back. It was documented with photos. I will have to dig through back...

Re: Determining Model A Gas Mileage
One of the reasons that I keep track of my mileage so closely (on all my vehicles) is that a notable change in mileage will tell you that something needs attention.
I'm less concern what my...

Re: Most Difficult Restoration Tasks
For me it was fitting a new windshield header. I must have had that thing in and out of the car six or eight times. You can't really tell if it is right until you get a bunch of the roof wood...

Re: Determining Model A Gas Mileage
I think that you have two problems.
1. I agree with Moose, you have much too small a sample size.
I would want to check it over at least a few hundred miles with a variety of driving...

USAF Security Police 1988-92.
I was in for the first Gulf War. It was nothing but heat and sand, ...and bikinis and lobster rolls.
Okay, I spent the entire conflict on Cape Cod, but apparently...

Re: Gas Cap surround and gauge
Easy fix. I used the neoprene float. I would NOT recommend replacing the whole gauge mechanism. Just replace the float. I found the reproduction gauges aren't as good as the originals. Also,...

Re: Night ride
I have a '30 Coupe. As my father likes to say, "all the windows are plumb." So yes, you get that 'hall of mirrors' effect. Just opening the front glass a little bit solves 90% of the problem. I...

It certainly could have been in the film, but does not appear to have been a featured car.

Patching Inner Tubes
I got a flat on my motorcycle the other day. I picked up a roofing nail. I put in a new tube, but I am confident that the puncture is so tiny that tube is salvageable. I haven't patched an inner...
