Re: 2024 video releases from Mart's Garage. All in this one thread.

Hi Mart, Good detective work on that old Holley carb. I hope to see you get it going properly on all four barrels. I'm running a 600 Holley in my car that looks pretty similar. Do you know what...

Re: Pumper truck

My grandad who lived in Bandana, Ky had one of those old trucks in his front yard for a few years. My uncle/his son had been a fire chief and the truck was retired/replaced. I think it was a 1954...

Re: Lake pipes

My '48 has lake pipes and measure about 60". But to extend the full length of the rocker panel they would need to be about 72". Your wheelbase may be a few inches longer, but I think 72" would be...

Re: My 33 BB Truck

Great truck! It appears to be a flathead V8, does that make it a BB or a V8?

Re: Troubleshooting Transmission '47 pickup

GB, I installed an S-10 T5 in my '48 sedan behind a non-flathead engine several years ago. I bought a transmission mount for mine, but it needed modification. I think it was made for a '40 frame. ...

Re: Looking for a machine shop

VicPiano of Tampa/Orlando (Cigar City Flatheads) might be a good contact. He's apparently not an engine builder as such but probably knows good people to recommend.

A person can purchase bare welding rod in 36" lengths at a hardware store, or TSC even.

Re: uncanny stories

I have one as well. It is also pretty astounding. Years ago when I was a teen, in the '63-65 time frame, I was horseback riding on the family 63 acre farm. I was wearing my '64 Class ring and lost...

The Comet is really nice! Should be a good addition to the fleet.

Re: 1950 Ford kingpin lock pin

Nick,

Of course you will need to remove the nut first, which should be on the front side of the kingpin. It should be obvious at that point.

Re: Hard time starting with electric starter, easy with crank

Dalton and Seth, I have hand-cranked a few four cylinder tractors/model A's etc. but never a V8 engine in my 77 plus years. But I've been told that a V8 is easier to crank start than a 4,...

Re: Hard time starting with electric starter, easy with crank

Hey Bud,

Welcome to the barn! If your engine is not spinning over very well, it probably means you either have a weak starter and or battery. If it is, it is probably a bad ground or connection...

I'm enjoying this rambling post as much as anyone. Kinda like a novel-huh! Your recent tool purchases make me think of a fellow who has a great automotive machine shop. He...

Re: Rebuilding an Ardun OHV 1954 - 1956

52 Allard,

Van Pelt would have been a good alternative for the rebuild and transmission parts from what I've read on FordBarn. We're glad you're back on the Allard project. Keep us updated.

Re: Ford Script Battery

OldGold,

You might do a search on Fordbarn. Someone did a DIY install in a original battery case a few months back. That is if you can find a case. They should be available.

Re: 47 V8 ignition mystery

Craig, Have you done a compression test when the engine has been misfiring? That would be good information to have. Dont' remember you mentioning whether you had or not.

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

That Comet is a great looking car. A little nostalgia there? I also have a soft spot for the early Comets and Fairlanes, (the mid-sized ones) as I owned a couple of Fairlanes. One of...

Re: 221-239-255 Flathead Engine Block Identification Version 2

It is a very interesting thread. I enjoy reading about the evolution of the flathead. One thing I'm foggy on is which flatheads used a cylinder sleeve. I'm aware that some did and some didn't but...
