The 50 & 51 Crestliner steering wheels had the spokes arranged in a full on X pattern and there was a stylized F in the center.

Well, after 3 weeks of struggling, the starter is finally out of the car.

Thanks Ben, and not being a smart alek but if the starter would/could run and start the motor, I wouldn't be trying to pull it out for replacement.
I can slide the starter drive gear in and out,...

OK y’all…this ain’t working. The darn starter is still in there.

Here’s what I have tried:
I took the brake line loose- not much help.
Removed the motor mount nuts; removed the steady rest...

Kinda hate to make another thread, but I need to attract the attention of someone who has done what I am in the middle of, and who found the 'magic angle' to getting the starter out of the car.

Well, I put a new solenoid in it today and that did not change the symptoms.
NAPA has a 'remanufactured' starter available, so it would at least be rebuilt in the USA.
I think replacing the starter...

So, it appears that the gen and reg are doing their part..but the starter solenoid and/or starter might be rolling over after 68 years and 69K miles...at least it sure looks that way.

Cranking probs on a 272

Vitals: 1955 Town Sedan. 69000 miles 272 engine has been overhauled.
6volt. Pos ground, Optima red top 6v battery.
Resting battery voltage= 6.3v
Engine running- charging voltage= 6.82v

Charging voltage

Stock 1955 Fairlane. 6 volt, Positive ground with a reed top Optima battery.
Checking for voltage at battery while running and I get 6.82v.

This seems a bit low, anyone know what it should be?

38 coupe- I had those green stripe, Ford logo hoses, but thank you for the info about the silicone hoses. Flexibility during the reinstall is going to be a must.
