Re: "help"

Was the block bored and/or honed before replacing the rings? Same size, or new pistons to suit a new size? All traces of the ridge removed?

With a fresh bore and new rings, there will be...

Re: ford f1 cowl assy

Are you asking about the bolt that is spring loaded and runs in a slot? Someone posted a pic with dimensions in your other thread. It's a regular bolt with a prevailing torque (self-locking) nut,...

Re: Holley 94 Rebuild - Something Strange

Appears to be a ball stuck down in the holes? Blow them out with compressed air?

Those are float needles, aren't they? Not the discharge needle? They have a groove for a retainer clip, which the...

Re: ultimate flathead

I liked this part:
The 55 had an unbuilt 283-cid V-8 so I bought a motor adapter and installed the 283 in my 32. What a disappointment that was. While I no longer had the heating problem, I had...

Re: I picked up a cheap 38 standard and put it on the road.

Great job on the '38! Is this your truck? I had them as my wallpaper for a long time. Hoods are different but I can't believe there are that many 4x4 51 - 52's around, especially with the...

Re: 49 f1 cowl to fender seal

I've never seen a seal with the dogleg at the bottom. All of them sold now go straight down along the bottom filler piece.

Re: Correct replacement for Fram C181-A?

Canadian engines used some different filters. Attached is a pic of a taller Canadian bypass filter, but I don't know what element it needs. Looks like OP's. (It's not the full-flow Canadian)

Re: Help decipher GM distributor vacuum canister numbers

I've had two of those (a Mr Gasket and an Accel, same unit). Both failed within a year or so.

Re: 53 239 Flathead Water Pump Mounts

I have truck pumps with narrow pulleys that were pressed on. My engine is an EAB from a Car. Previous owner wasn't concerned about the Car pumps not having mounting ears, he had the oil pan resting...

Re: A Christmas Story

My favorite line from the movie was something like, "Some mean were Baptists, some men were Masons, but my father was an Oldsmobile man."

Re: Anyone know what this fits?

That appears to be a '53 (only) Truck fan, with the sealed bearing, wide belt. Pretty rare if so.

Re: Thread size for '48-'52 F1 Leaf Spring U-Bolts

A local truck spring shop bent me up a set of 4 U-bolts to order, with new heavy washers and deep nuts, for $25. They did it while I waited. No way I'd re-use 68-y.o. bolts on a front end.

Re: Carbon on porcelin of plugs, flathead V8

So undoubtedly some choke-on time? short trips, idling with rich mixture will blacken plugs. If a fresh rebuild, rings may not be seated yet, short runs won't help that.

Re: 1951 ford bed info

Original is something close to 17 gauge on the sides and front panel.

Check out Mar-K http://www.mar-k.com/
I have always heard excellent experiences with theirs. Very high quality fabrication.

Re: Info on this truck transmission

The trans does appear to be earlier than a 48-52, but I believe the rear mount is specific to those years. It's a non-synchro 4-sp, nothing I'd care to drive these days.

Re: Info on this truck transmission

Set up like a 48-52 truck trans, with an F-2 / F-3 rear mount. The rear mount "feet" are often cracked, tho.
