Re: Smokin

As Patrick stated, pull the instrument panel away from the dash (gas tank) and look for signs of contact on the tank. If you see it, then the bend and tape of connections is an easy solve.

Since...

Re: Removing Gas Tank Question

Use penetrating oil on the whole series of bolts and fasteners and wait. Then use a 'dog bone' wrench. You may have to reverse the position and may even have to heat the wrench and bend it straighter...

Re: I have to have this part!

I would LOVE to have the 'part' as well. Let us KNOW if and when you can find it. Post in under the SAME heading, or - 'GOTTA HAVE this PART'.

Re: Engine oil again

I would go with the 'builders' recommendation. One thing I would add is Lucas for its adhesion properties.

I personally have used Castrol 20/50 for decades (Florida) in my cars and in my 31...

Re: 1929 water pump packing nut

I know that most of us love to keep our Model A's as original as possible; however, I drive my 31' A regularly. I through finally replaced the original water pump with a modern 'Leakless pump several...

Re: 1931 Battery Holder

If your car is just a 'driver' and you are NOT looking to meet 'Judgement Standards', you are more that 'safe' to retain the 'rubber insulation' that you found. If the car/battery has been converted...

Re: Fuel tank removal

The gas tank IS the cowling for the front of the car just past the firewall and up to the body (to which it is bolted). Unscrew these and get inside and under the dash and remove ALL the securing...

Re: Scroll rumble handle

These keys are not hard to reproduce. If you are happy with the condition of the handle, take the handle out of the lid and take it to a locksmith shop which will be able to reproduce the key at a...

Re: Retorqing head

MIKE"S and MAC"S catalogs have the information located in the catalogs. There are diagrams of the torque patterns and repeating torque sequences and time between doing so. Each step is 'always' with...

Re: Leaky Tire

Ditto for replacing the old tube. You have gone to a lot of effort to replace the wheel, so do the same with the inner tube. Penny wise - dollar foolish as an old Triumph tech told me years ago when...

Re: Mirrors for coupe

I have that set-up, but have a door-post mirror on both sides and a rear view mirror as well. This set-up allows me to see back down the road 'and' to either side of my coupe. It takes a little...

Re: Max Speed of a Model A with 26% OD and HC Head

All I can tell you is that I run sustained 68 mph in my Model A (per Garmin GPS readings) with a standard Model A 3-speed trans. I have 12 volt modern point system, a lightened flywheel, balanced...

Re: Why do you own a Model A?

I first had a 1919 Model T given to me by my wife for Christmas. Completely restored the car and loved driving it. Then had the opportunity to buy a Model A coupe and just had to have the car. So...

Re: flywheel info

BING / GOOGLE a local Model A club near you to find a machine shop also near you that has expertise with the process. Much quicker acceleration, less stress and wear on main bearings, and shifting is...

Re: Lube Unit

Your logic is both economically and environmentally sound. The issue is only how to or what to use to 'filter' the oil. What 'micro' degree of filtration should be used?

I have heard that...

Re: tire question

Use talcum on 'both' the inner tube and on the inside of each tire. Do not leave any 'build-up or clogs' on either - just a smooth coating.

Remember, you also have to deal with the application...

Re: Vapor Lock

Just the name of the product is intriguing. My good friend and Model A owner (Roger Withers RIP) swore by the stuff - more for value lubrication as I remember.

Anyway, I still have half a...

Re: tire question

Is this about mounting the new tires and tubes? Not sure what you are asking. I can tell you that I have always sprayed WD40 on a rag and then wiped along the 'bead' of the tires and the skirt of the...

Re: paint question

Provided you have enough layers of paint, you can 'carefully wet-sand ridge' with 2500+ and then use polishing compound followed by hard wax with electric buffer or lots of elbow grease.

Re: Easy Oil Pan Baffel Removel

As stated, sludge and crap will find its way to the bottom. Also, dig through the sludge and look for excessive metal and/or debris. it will give you an indication of the condition of your motor.

Re: Compression test results, opinions please.

As said, sounds like you can drive it as is - particularly if you feel that it has power at 45 - 50 mph. Otherwise, put a new head gasket on it and then check the numbers after heating it up a few...

Re: Engine Oil

Got this from the Top - 20-50 Castrol GTX with 1 qt. Lucas, then an extra quart of Marvel Mystery Oil. Damn, you have a concoction of amazing lubricants from top-to-bottom.

My 31 A (with Weber...
