Re: Extended Warranty

A friend of mine is a retired federal meat inspector. It dawned on me one day, although everyone would agree it is a necessary service, no one was ever "happy" to see him show up. I asked him about...

Re: Extended Warranty

I overheard my son take a call from bathroom remodeler salesman. Evidently when asked how many bathrooms, my son said none inside. We have one toilet outside but it’s a two holer. He feigned a...

Re: question

If it is legally licensed I would just show up like nothing is out of the ordinary and use proper hand signals etc.,. as required. It takes way more skill to drive an antique over modern one.

Extended Warranty

I finally answered the telemarketing call for vehicle warranty sales and the gentleman with the heavy Indian accent asked for my vehicle make and model. When I told him 1930 Ford AA he hung up on me?

Re: Hot water heater will not fit

There isn’t a lot of room in there. I had thought about doing a hot water heater, but since I found a big crack in my exhaust manifold and now have a brand new one I decided to try a manifold heater.

Re: Starter windings . . . a Look-See

Cloth friction tape to repair, don’t use plastic tape, then spray them good with electrical insulating varnish. I got a can at Grainger. Mine looked similar, not quite as bad. I also re insulated...

Re: Starter . . . Rebuild or Rebuilt?

I rebuilt mine. Handfuls of rust and mud dauber nests came out when I took it apart. I finally had to heat a couple of the screws in the fields to get them loose. Penetrant and heat over a couple...

Will there be any model A’s left?

Every day I see adds: “parting out this model A” or “rolling chassis for sale, I’m keeping body”. Will there be any original cars left?

Re: 31 pickup leaking steering box

I put the end plate with the tube in when I rebuilt mine, but it leaked anyway. Turns out it was leaking round the bolts. I pulled the bolts and put thread sealant on them and fixed it.

Bearing adjustments

I am reading a book by Page (copyright 1929-31) titled “Ford Model A Car andAA Truck”. Page says rod bearings would likely need to be taken up after 10,000 miles and mains after 20-30,000. Do you...

Re: Ford verse Chevrolet

One of my Dad’s first jobs was running a service station in partnership with his older brother. The owner was a “Ford man”. Dad said the reason he preferred Fords was Henry’s extensive use of roller...

Re: I went picking today.........

I seem to be in a model A desert. Not much around here. Went to a pretty good swap meet last fall a couple hours away, one locally held had zero model A stuff. Most things cancelled for the covid.

Re: Clutch shaft AA and A the same?

Re: 12 volt?

I could not come up with a good rational reason to convert. Some of my first vehicles were 6 volt, and clean and tight is the rule with lower voltage, or with any electrical system for that matter....

12 volt?

I am new to model A’s. Just wondering, I see a lot of guys convert to 12 volt and was wondering why? Other than powering modern accessories I couldn’t come up with a good reason in my head. Seems...

Re: Helpful Tips: Removing Perch Bolts From The Front Axle, Model A

Ditto on the ATF and acetone but so many get offended when you recommend it for some reason? Only drawback is the acetone tends to evaporate in my pump oiler, so I mix as needed. Best I’ve tried.

Re: Helpful Tips: Removing Perch Bolts From The Front Axle, Model A

I took two AA axles apart recently. Same only bigger. After liberal baptisms with penetrant, I loosened nuts and between pounding on nut with a big brass hammer and applying twisting force with a BIG...

Re: Windsheild wipers

Rainex works. You just have to remember to keep it applied. My son was away at college and his wipers failed in a storm at night and he couldn’t see to drive. I told him to buy some rainex and paper...

I’m glad you did that. I am needing to build this all from scratch on my AA. I saved it.

Re: Trailer hitch

In today’s litigious society where a large number of the population use small percentages of their grey matter, a disclaimer like this would be necessary. To quote a famous movie line, “a mans got...
