Re: License Plate Search

The vendor I bought my California restored plates from guaranteed them to be good for a period of time….I think 60 days. If the DMV did not approve them, he would find another pair for you at no...

Re: License Plate Search

I found and bought restored plates for my 1930 Town Sedan, here in S. California. You need to be sure the numbers/letters are still good…..I heard that motorcycle plates were using some of older...

Re: Max Speed of a Model A with 26% OD and HC Head

My 1930 Town Sedan has a 5.5 HC head, standard 3.78 rear end, and a 26% Mitchell OD. The previous owner restored the car and had the engine re-built, so I do not know exactly how well things were...

Re: Max Speed of a Model A in Stock Form

I think they are referring to the fact their brakes work well enough they can do that. Model A brakes that are not in great condition or adjusted properly work so poorly they cannot lock up the...

Re: Max Speed of a Model A in Stock Form

I have a 1930 Town Sedan, with the 5.5 head and Mitchell 26% OD. My steering is quite tight, with no play, I have good stock brakes and tires. I have done several tours on our freeways, and find a...

Re: Adding turn signals

If you haven’t already please go ahead and install the second rear taillight.....and use led’s on both. My Town Sedan has turn signals....I use the cowl lights in front, had a switch hidden under...

Re: Why do you own a Model A?

My first car, in 1964, was a Model A Standard Coupe.....which I bought as several of my high school friends also had Model A’s, and I just fell in love with it.....plus my dad had grown up with Model...

Dennis——Did you get one of the new Terry Burtz engines? I know Rick Hall of our local Model A Club has ordered one too.

Re: Fuel Question

I have yet to meet a fellow Model A owner here in California that has had issues from using ethanol gasoline. There are lots and lots of Model A’s here, and I am not aware of any gas stations...

Re: Are brake floaters worth it?

I had them installed many years ago, and they never did work properly, even after having several other knowledgeable Model A folks look at them. I removed them and went back to stock, and am aware...

Re: Model A Town Car?

Gen. Lyon also bought one of the Royale’s, had it for many years, then sold it to Volkswagen after they purchased Bugatti.

Re: Model A Town Car?

Here are some more photos of the Model A Town Car from the Lyon Collection in Southern California. My wife worked for Gen. Lyon for over 30 years, so I got access to his fabulous collection many...

Re: Mitchell O.D.

I can attest to how handy the Mitchell 2nd high is....really great for hilly or mountainous roads, where 2nd is a bit too low. But another really nice feature I enjoy more and more is just leisurely...

Re: Glenn Johnson

Yes, Glenn lived in Camino, very close to Placerville. Besides his very early 1929 Model A Station Wagon, he had a very nicely restored 1930 Deluxe Delivery that he and Sharon toured in. Along with...

Glenn Johnson

Long time member here, and frequent contributor in the past, Glenn Johnson passed away earlier today. Glenn was a long time Model A owner, and restored several since the 1960’s. He was a very...

Re: It’s getting harder to drive my A

Ray, I sympathize with you. I just turned 76, and have arthritis in my hips and lower back, and just getting in my Town Sedan is an effort, but I still take it out for short drives 3-4 times a week....

Re: Tail lite switch

I recommend you get a switch made by A&L.....they use a bronze bushing that won’t stick, and recommend by Tom Endy here. We put one in my A 15 years ago and it has never stuck.

Re: Best method to clean heavy grease off engine and frame

You also need to be careful where you live. In many residential areas doing any de-greasing and letting it runoff into the street or storm drain is a big no no.

Re: Free wheeling

With a stock model A transmission I would be careful about putting it in neutral in real hilly country, unless you are familiar with it. Once the car reaches pretty high speed it could be difficult...

Re: Oil Leak Troubleshooting

That comment about the “rear main janitor” reminded me of my first Model A, in 1964. It had a pretty serious leak there, and my dad told to wire up an empty ham tin.....which I did, and it worked...

Re: Mitchell Overdrive

I keep reading about the Mitchell shifter taking up leg room. I have had one for 15 years now in my Town Sedan....but it never gets in the way. I never seat three in the front seat, and don’t ever...

Re: Mitchell Overdrive

I have the heavier Town Sedan, so I added the 5.5 HC head the same time as the Mitchell was installed (this was before the newer 6.0 heads were available). I think this makes a great combination if...
