Re: hand throttle

It's not just used for starting the car, it is also pretty much a cruise control of the time. Remember the Model A was the next generation after the Model T and on the T, there was no gas pedal. ...

Re: 1929 Tudor steering box ID

If the car sat for a long period of time, the alternator may have lost its residual magnetism and its ability to self excite. Easy fix. Take the rubber plug off the alternator and while running...

Re: Steering arm bent?

I agree with loosening the big nut on the front. Mine had some room to move it and I think you will be able to rotate it some, then tighten it back up. Once you get it tight, remember the cotter...

Re: Are My Cowl and Hood correct?

It's actually kind of a surprise to me that given Henry's tendency to standardize things that he would allow Murray and Briggs to vary on some things that were pretty standard on all the in-house...

Re: Are My Cowl and Hood correct?

28/29 Fordors did resemble the 30/31's. Yours is likely correct because I cannot conceive of a way a 30/31 could be retrofitted to a 28. It would not be easy.

Re: Viton tip Zenith Needle/Seat shut-off

It's kind of a shame that we have to buy a handful of some things just to get one or two good ones. Cases in point, the 32/50 headlight bulbs and needle/seat valves.

Some vendors sell flow-tested...

Re: Death Wobble

Yes, the wobble happens at low speeds, and is very annoying. When I bought my car and took it home, it had the same wobble. Irregularities in the road and slowing at stop signs were usually what...

Re: Swing away shifter

Whether it is possible or not, I think it would be one heck of a driving distraction.

Re: Swing away shifter

Yes, straight up. Remember you are pulling against a pretty stiff spring.

Re: Swing away shifter

The real reason (so I've heard) was so that when parking the car, the driver could get the shifter out of the way and slide over to the other side and exit and enter the car through the passenger...

Re: Swing away shifter

I thought all shifters moved. Maybe it's just stiff.

Re: 1930 Model A diaper pan

A clogged or blocked off oil filler pipe or breather cap would cause this too.

Re: Brakes and Brake Rods

The initial length of each of the four brake rods should be 51-7/16 to 51-1/2. Often times these lengths get adjusted out, but that should be a starting point. If you cannot reach that range of...

Re: This hobby is dieing

Clubs may not be necessary, but they serve a few purposes. (1) a social forum for owners and spouses where lasting friendships have been forged. (2) a way for those who don't have mechanical or...

Re: Cast Iron drum brakes - Restoration finish?

Seems to me that painting would be good. I painted mine. With the wheel on the drum, the outer edge of the drum shows through the spokes, so my opinion is that black would look better than rust. ...

Re: steering wheel orientation

I thought the X pattern was suggested by Ford so that the instrument panel could be better seen while driving straight ahead.

Re: Detached wire, running, but no headlights, turn signals or horn

Connect that wire along with the other yellow wire at the generator cut off. It is the wire that powers everything but the running of the engine.
