Re: ‘40 2 door sedan

I had a V8-60 in a 38 STD Tudor a few years ago; it was about like driving a Model A as far as power and acceleration goes. You have to wind it up pretty good in second before hitting third, just not...

Re: '48 F1 and F6 grill similar?

Respectfully, the hood, upper valence, lower valence, and grille are all equally interchangeable for U.S. F-1 through F-6 for model years 1948 through 1950. The actual fenders, upper and lower...

Re: 1953 Mercury Truck Axle Swap

Check your parts books close, it may be easier than it appears. I have no direct experience with 53-56 but a fair bit with 48-52. In the bonus built years of 48-52, the front axle and spindles are...

Re: 1941 Ford Pickup Transmission Mounting

I think what is trying to be said is that if you try and use the u shaped rubber mount for 42-52 half ton transmission you are pretty much going to need and cut out the complete middle of your 41...

Re: 390 in a 51 Ford truck

X2 on the tall pentroof style 65-66 mercury valve covers as found on their 410 engines.

Hard to go wrong with the early style rounded thunderbird valve covers either. Black and gold just looks...

Re: 1941 Ford Pickup Transmission Mounting

42-52 1/2 tons all use the same rear trans mount/bearing retainer and cushion. So if that is the rear bearing retainer and mount you have it's set up for a u shaped saddle type mount streching across...

Re: Seat ideas

Ford ranger seats, from the 90s up until 2003 or so, fit excellent. Some even had a small indent in the lower seat cushion to add more room for a floorshift. Course that is a 20+year old used seat...

Re: "Strainer", '40 Coupe Body part?

For what it is worth, the strainer (x brace) in the 39 sedans also have two different styles. I attributed it to assembly plant "liberties".

Re: 1950 F-1 Pickup Bed

Assembly protocol was to completely assemble the bed (minus fenders), then paint the entire assembly. This is true for stake and platforms as well. So your tin floor covering should be body color. In...

Re: Radiator support 48-50 vs 51-52 F1

Actually the 48 to 50 supports have two small holes in the upper left hand side front ( just under where the sheet metal air deflector passes through the upper bolt) to mount the 48 to 50 horn and...

Re: 51 ford car-radiator placement

The IPB also lists different front portions of the inner fenders (where the air inlets are for the interior heating and ventilation). I don't know for sure, but I guess for battery box installation....

Re: 51 ford car-radiator placement

The stamped u shaped core support is the same regardless of engine, 8A-16139. The sheet metal air deflector above the radiator is different, 8HA-8327 for the 6 cylinder.

Re: Headers for '49 custom

I too have a set of Fentons on a shoebox. Fits fine.

Be aware though there are Fentons and then there are the current production Fentons from speedway. While they look very similar, the older...

Re: 1949 F1 fan shroud?

Every 48 to 52 V8 commercial and truck (F1 to F6) fan shroud I've ever fooled with has been the same.

As posted above for the V8 the radiator support goes in the REAR most holes in the inner...

Re: Control arm seals fit issues

I found the seals that come with the new repo parts are wayyy off base from the factory rubbers and the NORS bushings. I tossed most of my "new" stuff in the trash and used 50+ years old rubber seals...

Re: gear shift knob/ball

if you purchased what vendors sell as a shift tower cover (big tan or black boot) be aware that no floorshift FORD ever came with those. That is a 39 Mercury item. Your cast iron shift tower and...

Re: 8ba valve train help needed

If your seats are still sized for stock, then just buy aftermarket stainless Ford sized valves and run stock springs and forget about all that other hassle. If you really, really fussing around with...

Re: 1938 to 1952 Ford 3/4ton & 1ton pickup boxes

GB Sission, AMEN! 1/2 ton only get the small opening and most folks don't know the difference until its too late...bigger tire = larger opening. Not sure if it if started with TT or AA but from then...

Re: 1949 F1 Regulator Problem

Since your regulator is toast anyway, my thoughts are:

carefully protect door and cut the regulator to handle shaft shaft off as short as possible

remove all regulator screws--dont forget the...

Re: 1938 to 1952 Ford 3/4ton & 1ton pickup boxes

flat sided bed didn't arrive on 3/4 ton trucks until 1953 model year; same as the block letter tailgate. Half tons got the new bed about halfway through the 1950 model year (still with script on...

Re: shifts hard

if you unbolt 7318 and 7319, pretty much all of the moveable stuff easily comes off. I bet you just have a bunch of funk and hard grease and a simple remove, clean, grease, and install will get you...

Re: Opinion please

The early 38 standards were pretty spartan on the exterior with thier painted windshields and lack of rustless moldings on the grille and down the bodyline. A true embodiment of a more "industrial"...

Re: Informal poll - 1948-52 F-1 Front Disc Kit

Maybe you could market your anti- sway bar deal. As you noted, no coverage in the aftermarket for 42 to 52 half ton to three quarter ton commercials. Rears yes, fronts no. Just saying...

Re: Runs great until it heats up

Welding with battery connected or even disconnected but with you electronic Mallory still connected isn't good. They probably killed the module in your distributor. My two cents.

Brother just did...
