6V Dynamo

Hi to all
Just fitted a new Stromberg carb and a 6v positive earth E fire distributor to a 50 Ford
The battery isn’t charging and stays at 6.08V no matter what the revs
I’m not sure how to test...

sripped down a flattie that started banging in my friends 51 Merc and here's what I saw when i pulled the inlet
What caused this sludging up round the valves

looks like it's a problem with too much end float on the crank.
I'm guessing the lack of oil wiped out any shims.
Everything else on the crank looks fine

Pulling a flathead

Hi to all
i'm pulling the motor out of a 49 Merc
Should i unbolt it so the bellhousing comes with it or unbolt from the back of the block and leave the bellhousing attached to the gearbox

I've been away but had time to whip off the sump and the big end bearings are all fine.There is a bit of rust in some of the cylinders which was odd.
As said,it was hard to hand crank at first,when...

I pulled the filler cap off and the smell was not good.
He wanted to go for it so I filled it with oil and turned it on the crank with the plugs out.
It loosened up.
spun it with the plugs out and...

he had parked up and knocked on my door so didn't hear it

looks like a stripped sump plug.I've seen the car loads of times and no smoke so not burned it

A pal brought his 50 Ford over this afternoon.He went to leave and it wouldn't start.Checked spark and petrol and all fine.
I stuck a spanner on the crank to rotate engine to get TDC to check if...

in theory it should work
the resin has a higher melting point than the engine reaches.The seat is peened over and i'm not doing 10 second quarters in it.No reason why it won't work out

I had a good look at the seat and saw it had cracked.I cleaned it up,cleaned where it seats,put JB weld on the back and outside of the seat.

Thanks for all the help.
i'm going to take out the lifters and try the 7 cylinder option until it drives me nuts and i pull the engine
