Re: 30 model A tug, oil pump not working

I cringe when I see someone on a video start a car that has been setting for many years. They can do real damage to the engine if it is started without getting rid of that old oil. There are ways to...

Re: Timing wrench

Without a cam wrench of some kind, how would you hold the cam in position while you tighten the screw? I agree that exact timing isn't as important as a modern car because the little that you might...

Re: Ordering a Distributor Cap/Rotor, best one?

Tom is correct. While building distributors I noticed to my horror that they are made incorrectly in most cases. The contacts are spaced into the distributor bodies incorrectly, meaning that some...

Re: Distributor Analysis

I think there is an advance problem. You didn't say what year it is, so if it is a 28/29 watch the length of the advance rod, make sure it is moving the distributor timing correctly. if it is a 30/31...

Re: what a disappointment

I would take off the head. It isn't very hard and will give you a chance to see what is going on in the block. My Dad had at 29 Roadster that couldn't stay cool, did much of the same things you have...

Re: firewall inside insulator?

Along with felt that is shaped a lot like those metal parts, they go around the steering column and the clutch and brake pedals to keep out heat, noise and fumes. They are held on with screws and can...

Re: Fuel proof paint

The best stuff I have found is found at your local radio controled model airplane store. It's put out by Top-Flite and is called LustreKote. Get the black #TOPR7509. It is high gloss, fuel proof...

Re: Bench test Carb?

If the needle valve is leaking, don't be afraid to get a new one. Do it before you make the above adjustments. There are good ones and better ones, but that is usually a matter of preference. Rust...

Re: Recent experience with Mac's

Some good and some bad with Mac's. Put in a large order and called them to make sure the items that were actually important were in stock. Got them but half of the order was out of stock and back...

Re: Wheel balancing and weights

The way I do it is to take a front wheel bearing loose until it turns very easily, and then put on a wheel. It will go to the heavy side down, I use hammer on weights and put them on the inside of...

Are you using the same carb now that was on it when it was purring like a kitten? [/COLOR]

No, and that's what is making me crazy. I did get the engine built in Turlock and he did an...

Re: Flowing Jets

I do run my float just a little low, but have never had any of the problems that I read about, like dyeing at a stop or problems on an incline.;)

Flowing Jets

I have rebuilt a few carburetors and have been having a problem that might be solved with a little extra brain power applied.

I have sealed up all the air leaks I think existed and cleaned the...

Re: 31 rdster carb help again

A perfect shut off valve or a perfect needle valve in the carburetor would both solve the leaking problem.

I believe that the shut off valve at the tank is the most important and I fixed mine...

Re: Vin number identification when manufactured

The best case is to have a matching set of numbers between the frame and the engine and title. Anything less adds to your possibility of trouble. If only the number on the frame matches the title,...

Re: rear wheel bearings won't come out

I'm not sure what it could be that would be holding the bearing in, a picture would sure help.
To knock out the races and bearings in everything from cars to motor homes, I turn the hub upside...

Re: Correct spark plug gap

I would go into the carb and look at the idle jet. They are really small and easily gummed up. Sitting for a while could have finished off a jet that was just a little restricted. If it was running...

Re: OT: But Good Info To Have....

I use L.E.D.s in my blinkers, and they take halogen blinker fluid. I wonder why he didn't mention that?

Re: Car died will not start

I respect you ideas, but disagree. I think that changing out a distributer on a car for a known good one is the best way to start. I find that the search can range from gas to spark and everywhere in...

Re: Removing Model A Body From Frame

Also take note of all wood blocks, where they come from and which way. Some are easily mistaken for others.
When the body is off, it is a really great time to check the frame for straightness and...

Re: Battery Cable/Ground Strap Gauge Questions

I'm looking to glean some ground strap info also. I like the idea of going from the started bolts to the ground bolt on the frame. The length might be a little longer than I was thinking of using....
