Re: 53 fordomatic
Probably a seal. But the question is: is it because the seal is old, wore out or hard? or is it because the surface it runs on has wear or rust?

Re: Rear crank shaft seal 8ba
There is no reason to trim. Use a square shaped punch the same size as the end of retainer. Keep tapping it in and rolling the seal down in the grove with a large pin about 1 1/2 in diameter. It will...

Re: Rear crank shaft seal 8ba
Do not cut the rope seal. Get it all in the retainer. It will fit. If you cut it after things settle in you will have a gap between the two halfs and a oil leak.

Re: Mercury Turn Signals?
signal lights were still an option for 1953 Fords. I have a coupe with no signal lights. It also lacks wiring in the steering column and to either tail or parking lights.

If the stater is still factory painted or if there are traces of factory paint the color can help ID the year pf the starter. After 1949 Ford started painting passenger vehicle engines that were...

Re: starters
The one on the left is more likey for a 1950 because of the bronze paint. 50/51 8BA starters were painted engine paint (Bronze). 52/53 EAB starters were engine color (Orange). 49 and earlier were...

Re: starters
I believe the difference between 8BA/EAB engines and 59 engines is the thickness of the front bushing housing. The Thick one is 59 style and the thin one is for 8BA/EAB engines.
The later ones...

Re: Crankshaft Pulley Installation
You really don't want to be hammering on the end of the crankshaft. Rig a puller up so you aren't pulling on the pulley but more to the center of it. Clean up the inside of it and pull it on.

Only 1952 will work. 1953/53 has the Customline on a stainless spear that goes on the end of the fender stainless strip.

Re: 39 ford headlights
There are 2 bulbs, 1 for high and low beam and a small one for the parking light. Flea markets are full of NORS ones. Plus most V8 suppliers sell the imported ones.
