Re: Torque tube shortening recommendations

Mitchell Overdrive was kind enough to cut splines on a solid shaft for me,
might have been around 15 years ago. The turn around time is dependent
on their timing. They do a bunch all at once. Then...

Re: Conversion U-joint

If you can find the right auto parts store, there are size listings.
You need to measure the end to end ujoint size by measuring the drive shaft, then same on the rear end.
and then the cup...

Re: 12 year old Coker tires, still ok?

I've had a ten year old tire, stored inside, go off like a bomb.
This was on the highway, 70 mph.
This was pretty soon after putting it in service.
Took out some sheet metal. Almost nothing left...

Re: Swap 46 transmission internals into a 37 box

One better, get a top from the later box that is the one the 3" fork comes from.
1939, or the truck 3 speed- to 1948. (I think?)
If you put the 3" for in the earlier lid, you'll have to reposition...

Re: Head bolt question

Put the head flat on the bench, drop the studs in and compare
the heights of the studs.

Re: Stripped threads in valuable intake- Time Sert vs. TIG and redrill or other

To my way of thinking, Helicoil is the way to go.
I would make a guide of wood, drilled in a drill press, to make sure the tap is vertical to the surface,

I've got one. It's used. If you want to call me, I'll tell all I can.

Re: drive shaft re-spline

Mitchell Overdrive did one for me a bunch of years ago, some waiting for the machining set up to come around to the configuration for my job. Reasonable cost, probably different now so I won't quote....

Re: Valve seats. How to remove?

I pulled all 16 seats out of a 59AB by putting washers in and arc welding to the seat.
The washers also give a bit of shield to the block.
I had K.O. Lee- a company that makes valve seats- make me...

Re: Radial tires again

I put a 2x4 on the outside of each front wheel, blocked up with bricks.
Put two tape measures across, under the car, hook both on same side- one front, one rear.
Read the front, rear to determine...

Re: Hydraulic Brake Light Switch

I just replaced a HD. switch that stuck closed- they're not perfect.
This is on a stock, electrically unmodified 2007 Dyna, under 10k miles

I think that I used the one from a (1975?) VW super beetle.

Re: No Emergency Brake

Nicopress will work to shorten cables. But, does need an expensive crimping tool.
I use the one at the yaught store.

Re: Ratchet style starter drive retract

There is a way to do this by hand, using a very sharp pencil.
The trick is to put the tip of the pencil into the end of the spiral,
in three places- sharpen the pencil for each one. Break off the...

Re: Original 32 lifters with 8BA vlaves

I remember hearing that the earlier lifters don't have the strength for the smaller size valve ends. I would try getting a set of lifters from an 8BA, cheap in relation to going back in to fix.

Re: Will 59 A-B flywheel fit an 8BA ?

No need to break the old ring gear, I've used a punch to knock the old ring gear off.
Many times.

Re: Pressure test plate

You could probably get away with 1/4". Use a soft gasket. I use theatrical dance floor material called Marley. I used 1/4" steel for the plate.

Re: Testing generators

Try motoring the gen.
This is done on a Ford by powering the armature connection and the field, ground the frame. If it spins as a motor, it'll work as a generator.

Re: Seized 59AB Engine - Solutions

If it was to me, pull the heads. maybe split the nuts.
Check for rusty holes. If it's bad, you'll be taking it apart anyhow.
No use breaking stuff.

Re: Rebore to accept sleeve for .125 piston

I've used a step at the bottom of the sleeve.
That is done by not boring all the way to the bottom of the cylinder, leaving about .125 or so, drive the sleeve in until it's stopped by this.

Just...

Re: 59a Engine Failed Big Time.

Measure the cam and new cam bearings, also.
I had a reputable supplier send me a cam with reground journals
with standard size bearings.
He did make good, promptly.
