Re: Ammeter never shows charging

It could very well be wired wrong, and might've always been. I like Charlie's suggestion as a way to check it, and if it fails I'll trace wires in the junction box.

Ammeter never shows charging

My ammeter never shows charging. I've had the car about 14 years and it's always been like this, and until recently I assumed that's right but now I'm not so sure.

It has a generator with a...

Re: Excess oil....???!!!???

i agree you might want to try lowering the oil level. Also, check for seepage around the base of the oil fill pipe. It's only a press fit and if that pipe is loose at all, oil can get blown out...

Re: How many are left?

Strange as it may sound, I doubt everyone could agree on exactly what counts as a "Model A". One approach is you could go strictly by registrations, so if the owner calls it a Model A and the state...

Re: 1930 Town Sedan production

My 1930 Murray TS has the original body tag number M604-25447 where M604 is their designation for a TS body and 25447 is the serial number. It is clearly an early 1930 car. Unfortunately, it does not...

Re: Old husband's tales

He said "dad had a spare rotor" so there was a rotor used in the setup. Only the top cap was gone not the entire distributor body, so the setup described is possible. With the dissy body intact, you...

Re: Old husband's tales

I get it. Picture the distributor with the top cap off. The piece of wood must be something narrow like a popsicle stick, running across the top, between the two clips that hold down the cap. It will...

Re: APPLE GREEN Wheel UPDATE

I don't know if your apple green is exactly as the original color, but I think it is a much nicer green and I think you will be happier with it in the long run. Given a choice between the two,...

Re: Fuel gauge float question

If you are going to remove the gauge for any reason, it's a good time to replace and/or clean everything. The repair is dangerous enough to do the first time, so there's no sense reusing old gaskets...

Re: Jet sizes

This is pure speculation, but perhaps something to think about. I know one of the distinguishing characteristics of Canadian Model A's is the use of Robertson screws, which were not used on US cars...

Re: Jet sizes

The only thing I can think of is they are adjusting it for service in generally colder weather. A Canadian Model A is more likely to see below-freezing conditions for longer periods than a United...

Re: Fuel gauge float question

I've got the aluminum tools and they perform adequately. They required me to push tight to keep them from popping off while tightening, but I don't know if the steel ones grip better. My car is an...

Re: Question for Fordbarn concerning Ebay.

I think what happens on Ebay should stay on Ebay. If anyone has a problem with an Ebay seller they should use the proper channels to address it. There are lots of reasons deals go south there and...

Setting Generator Charging Rate

I had to replace my generator due to a squealing bearing. I installed a newly rebuilt from Bratton's so I trust that it's good. No adjustment has been made yet for charging rate, and I do...

Talking Re: Splash Pan Functional Purposes?

The splash pans are there in case you drop a small part while working on the engine. They direct said part to the most inconvenient spot in the exact geographical center under the car, requiring you...

Re: carb idle question

Make sure you follow all the steps in the correct order.

a) Is the engine completely warmed up to running temperature?
b) Is the GAV turned completely to the right?
c) Is the spark fully...

Re: New Info on Model A

I've also read how the Model A engine is capable of running on various alternate fuels. Has anyone ever tested an engine using them and measured the actual performance?

Re: The pinstriping is done

Absolutely beautiful job. I love the color and I think it complements the body color wonderfully. If any purists say it's the wrong color, or painted wrong, just ignore them. Your car will be one...

Re: gas guage question

Maple syrup might work good or maybe not. Honestly, I'm waffling on that idea.

Re: gas guage question

I just repaired my gas guage recently. I believe they provide a thick and thin gasket so you can use either one (or both) depending on how the outer nut happens to seat on your particular car. It...

Re: Alternator vs. Generator

Nothing against your dad, but whitewalls in the 1930's were actually the cheaper and less desirable tires. White rubber in those days was natural rubber, black rubber was (and still is) vulcanized...

Re: Engine Serial # Not Visible

I suppose knowing what the number under the paint is might be an interesting tidbit about your car. If you can validate the font and spacing of the stamped numbers proves it's the original factory...

Re: Flywheel

I think another reason for the heavy flywheel was due to the very poor roads at the time. Many rural roads were not much improved from the frontier trails they followed, and could be very rough...
