Re: grey smoke out of exhaust - hill/slope

Your GAV shouldn't have much if any effect at idle. Try adjusting your idle mixture screw.

Re: grey smoke out of exhaust - hill/slope

You may check your float level. It may be a little too high causing the engine to flood going up hill. does this occur when going up other hills? Or are you on relatively flat ground?

Re: Hood supports

I like those, they are out of the way. Snyder's has something similar.

Re: Coolant Seepage at front of head

No, I think the entire head gasket may have "settled in" since initial installation if he has not retorqued it. Simple check is all.

I run Graphtite head gaskets with no sealant and no leakage....

Re: Snyder's Exhaust Manifold

A lot (most) of the original ones are sagging and unusable as is. They would have to be straightened as Brent suggested.

Re: Head stud repair with insert...Q

The oversize stud is more than "a few thou oversize". The threads that go into the block go from 7/16"-14 to 1/2"-13 for the oversize stud.

Re: Are brake floaters worth it?

To tell the truth, I could not tell if the springs were removed or not when stepping on the pedal when the car is standing still.

It is only when the car is moving and the brakes are applied that...

Re: Comprehesive howto for brakes?

I think nkaminar was saying it opposite. I think you have to set the 15 before you set the rod length. You don't set the lever 15 by adjusting the rod length, you do that with the pill(s).

Re: Comprehesive howto for brakes?

Re: Head stud repair with insert...Q

Well the oversize studs Bratton's has are Grade 8. And you're installing it in the same block as an insert. So I would think it goes to say you would have to test pull your insert as well.

Re: Head stud repair with insert...Q

Could you use an oversize stud and forget the insert? That would be my first choice.

And may allow water/dirt in. I use the modern type with the plastic cap. Keeps the zerk clean and since it is black is somewhat invisible.
