Re: Roadster windsheld Q...

I would never drive with this in the down forward position. But it sure is useful for me when I have to trailer the car on an open trailer. I wrap in moving blankets in the down position and wrap...

Re: Tillotson Carburetor

I used the kit from Berts. The carb had been on the car and not driven for 30 years. It did not leak any gas but I never tried to start the car. Took it apart and did the replacement of all the...

Re: Mileage Program (MARC) anyone here doing it?

I would be in it, but it is a bitch when you don't have a working speedometer! Maybe that should be the next investment?

Re: Headgasket

Bert's sells them also. But I emailed Steve about two months ago to tell him that their on line shopping does not mention anywhere the "Best" name. He answered me that I was correct and he would...

Re: FSI Electronic Ignition Centrifugal Advance Distributor

I have the standard FSI distributor and have had it on my car for about 15 years. I set the slow idle position at about minus 3 degrees with a timing light and it has run perfectly for all that...

Ask my wife. She learned how to do that at 17!

Roadster Windshield Stantions

Every since my amateur restoration done when I was 14 and 15 back in the 60's, I have not really been able to drive much with the top down in my standard roadster. The wind would move the windshield...

Re: Water Pump Housing Crack

Thanks for the advice. I would never have put that fan back on. But if I had not soaked the casting, I might never have seen that crack.

Steve at Bert's has given me a good price on a sound...

Water Pump Housing Crack

Just pulled the water pump casting from the carb cleaner dip and this is what I see, for a crack starting at the forward neck.

Here is how it looks from the inside of the casting.

Re: Ford Engine Green

I just am painting my engine now. 2 parts John Deere green and one part Rustoleum black, is as close as I can see. It looks exactly like my engine repainted in the late 60's.

Re: Engine Painting

Thanks to all for the help. I will paint the top of all the flat bosses on the head. And I will try some of the high temp black for the exhaust manifold. The engine was blue on this town sedan...

Engine Painting

Head is off, valve cover off and I am repainting both and then will try to paint the rest of the engine in place. I have a few dumb questions that some of you could help me with.

Do the...

Re: Cleaning Wires

Thanks, DUH, I never thought about getting the drills, just thought I needed wire since that is what instructions say. Sometimes the obvious has to hit me in the head before I think of it.

Cleaning Wires

Rebuilding a Zenith and a Tillotson carb and wonder where to buy the right size cleaning wires to verify the clear openings?

I have a set that looks like an allen wrench folding set. The sizes...

Re: Tillotson Carb Rebuild?

Thanks. Do you use carburetor cleaner? And how long should I allow for a soak? I did a search on the forum and see many different ways to clean.

Tillotson Carb Rebuild?

I got this carburetor from a friend who tells me it was on his Dad's car for as long as he owned it (not sure how long that was). The car was not driven for the last 22 years. He was taking the car...

FSI Distributor

I have had an FS electronic distributor on my Roadster for about 12 years. It is the older one, not the one that resembles the Model A distributor. I had the head off for some work a while ago and...

Back on the Road

I purchased a rebuilt carburetor last year. For a little background I am ashamed to say that my roadster had been over 5 years without any road time. I moved to the side of a steep mountain and the...

Re: Anyone Contacted "American Pickers" lately?

I am not surprised that this is planned and staged for the show. But they certainly have more in the stores than T-Shirts. Check it out if you are in Nashville, worth the time to see what they have...

Re: Anyone Contacted "American Pickers" lately?

I have been in the Nashville store twice. I watch this show frequently and I can tell you that much of what I saw in that store, I actually saw them picking on some of the shows. Clearly they may...

Re: Transporting a 1931 Deluxe roadster

I did trailer mine, and knew I could not haul with it backwards. With the top up it would end up pulling out all the grommet connectors for sure. I did not want to take the windshield off, so I put...

Re: Water left in car over winter

My barn find from TN had a cracked head almost the full length of the head. Nothing else damaged on the engine or radiator after checking and rebuilding the water pump, distributor and carb. You...

Re: Dry Gas?

I guess the jury is out on damage to our Model A's, but how many of you have ever owned a boat (almost all had plastic fuel tanks molded in until about 6 or 7 years ago) and used ethanol gas? I will...

Re: Dry Gas?

I use SeaFoam with my gas. The corn crap in the gas will absorb moisture if it is left long enough. Then you have a layer of water in your tank. Using some of the additives will hold that moisture...
