Yes, the 58 switch will work fine.bolt-in replacement.An easier to find( and cheaper)switch is one from an early 60s truck with automatic.

Thomas.........Where are you located?I have a 55 steering gear box that came off of a 67,000 mile car.I'd like $100 for it,but if you're very far away the shipping might be prohibitive.

Sal,I'm not positive,but pretty sure it was factory installed if ordered with the car,but there were probably a lot of them installed later at the dealer.

All 56 Fairlanes that left the factory with Y-8 were a four-barrel,dual exhaust 292 unless a 312 was specified.All other models ordered with a Y-8 were 272s,unless the person ordering it specified...
