Stop light switch?

Having an issue with my early 31 SW brake lights. When first applying pedal, brake lights work fine. However as you continue on the pedal the brake lights go out. No impact on tail lights/turn...

I had a rattle that turned out to be the rod in E brake that is activated when you push the button on top to release the e brake. Drove me crazy till I found it as I thought it was...
