Re: Sticking valves?

I’ll answer your question: you made a good call. .002 loose is just fine, too loose is way better than too tight. I’m not sure why you are getting so many more suggestions (they are always...

Re: Truck for sale

I would say I was interested but I already know that I can’t afford it.

Re: Tillotson carb

And you all know about Marvel Mystery Oil, right? Same guy, he created MMO because his carburetors were having problems with bad fuel etc. I don’t know how much money he made selling Marvel...

Re: Tillotson carb

Tilly’s were like a JC Whitney thing. You could buy a new Tilly for less than a Zenith rebuild. I don’t think that it was intended to be an upgrade so much as it was an inexpensive replacement.
Now...

Re: Opinion Re Differential Gear Ratio

If you need to save $$ just put synthetic oil in it and drive it the rpm might bug you but it won’t hurt the motor (to be clear, I’m talking 55, not 85)

Re: Seized motor/potentially overheated

I suggest that you put the transmission in 3rd gear and rock it back and forth (particularly, back) both the crank and the starter are going to attempt to rotate the motor clockwise/forward. If...

Re: Opinion Re Differential Gear Ratio

I think that 28-29 with 21” wheels vs 30-31 with 19” wheels might make the difference too.

Re: Opinion Re Differential Gear Ratio

The top mechanic in our club installed a 3.54 in one of his cars because he likes messing with things (as do I LoL). I do not know anything about the motor but I do know that the car already had an...

Re: Batteries completely discharging

I think you got 2 bad batteries, it would not be the first time. They would test “dead but ok” at the battery store if your car ran them down.

Re: The absolute 'MINIMUM' cylinder wall thickness....

Brent, I’m not an expert by any means but would like to see if I can condense the comments. You seem to want an opinion and short of talking to the engineer that did the original blueprints anybody’s...

Re: Aries Stainless Steel Muffler

Our local club has what we call a “get out and get under” day every spring where some of us help out the less mechanically inclined in hopes of keeping them on the road and participating in our...

Re: Narrow V8 Rear Axle

Sorry for the rant, a lot of pain this morning. FWIW I only chose a V8 axle because if I have to go to the trouble of altering an axle it may as well be a stronger V8 axle. I have done a lot of...

Re: Narrow V8 Rear Axle

Here is the best answer I have: There have been plenty of people disappointed about the width the brakes add but most, if not all, have apparently chosen to live with it. If using original 21” or 19”...

Re: Alternator hidden in a generator case?

Well Ken, there is always “that guy” and today you’re it. The generator needs replaced anyway so if it’s gonna get done, now’s the time. No more voltage regulator. Additional capacity if needed in...

Re: Flat head back firing pop. pop over and over

I realize that I said it had to be a fuel issue but there are a few exceptions. If there is weak spark such as from a bad coil, or reverse wired coil, too small of points gap, then enriching the fuel...

Re: Flat head back firing pop. pop over and over

The chance that this is the problem is slim but nonetheless I will share it. I was recently asked to sort out a very similar problem on a ‘51 F-1 V8. In the end I found that the owner had installed a...

Re: Narrow V8 Rear Axle

I have a problem to deal with and I am simply seeking help from some more experienced than me. I fail to understand why it’s a sin to ask for help, it should not matter to you what MY car looks like,...

Alternator hidden in a generator case?

I am working on a ‘51 F-1 and the owner has decided to stay with 6V Positive ground. I like the idea of an alternator that looks like a generator. I’m pretty sure that there is at least one company...

Re: Narrow V8 Rear Axle

PS, I have a guy looking for a Maverick axle but even that won’t work unless I can get axles for it with the 5x5.5 pattern because the width added by the adapters would push the total width back into...

Re: Narrow V8 Rear Axle

Even before the Lincoln brakes I was 1/2-3/4” wide so the extra 1 1/2” that the Lincoln’s add definitely pushes it into the “no-can-do” department. Something that will shave anything less than 2” is...

Re: Narrow V8 Rear Axle

I think that I am going to give up on trying to keep the look of the banjo. There are newer axles readily available ( a 10 bolt from a S-10 is one of them) that need very little to modify to...

Re: Narrow V8 Rear Axle

I try and lay out all the information I can but things in I post get missed. I already have about 1,500 into Lincoln/Bendix Brakes. This in fact is the whole problem, those brakes add 1.5-2” per...

Narrow V8 Rear Axle

This is not my first thread on this topic but I have a bit more info now so I thought I would start fresh. My mockup is done and the combination of Model A axle with the Lincoln brakes, the 16” wires...

Re: Back end of a T-5

If you go to the Early V8 parts for sale here the The Barn you will find that Krylon 32 (Gary @ Cornhusker) in Nebraska sells exactly what you need. He’s a great guy to deal with. I have bought quite...
