I'm guessing that your frame is bent just behind the motor mounts, I ran into the same problem on one of mine!

You need a later model return pipe, sounds like you have a 1928 one. I had the same problem and dug around in my parts to find a longer one!

I have a similar one from Amazon with the knobs instead of the digital controller. My first one was like yours but the read-outs quit working on about the third time I used it!
This new one works...

I had to use the new stainless ones on my hood since the old ones were cracked. They work very well. Use some WD or oil and drill as suggested!

I think that the only reason you require power is for the light bulb, mine came with both 6 and 12 volt bulbs and I just used the 6 volt one!

As Tom Wesenberg said in the posts I quoted, you pull the wire as tight as possible and them use the hook to do the final tightening. If I remember correctly I pulled it tight and then clamped it...

Thanks guys, I've got it under control now. It appears my brother and his body-man buddy filled in the hole about 45 years ago and after scraping off the primer I was able to clean it all out!

My only suggestion would be to get a SpotTracker like we use on our motorcycle trips and post the link to a password protected site so that only people you want to see it may access...
