Re: Crud in carb bowl

My '59 Galaxie does have a threaded plug on the bottom of the gas tank. I could put a small valve there and position it so it doesn't hang too low.

Re: Crud in carb bowl

Thanks Kultulz. Looking at the first article I see there seems to be a disagreement on this subject. There is an oil/propane company close to me that sells non ethanol gas. I'm going to drain my tank...

Crud in carb bowl

Anyone else have a problem with deposits in carb bowl after it sits for awhile? I rebuilt my carb about 1 year ago. Gas tank looks clean inside and inline filter was installed. Fresh gas in tank. The...

Re: Under hood Insulation

Apparently heat is not issue. I saw it mentioned once that it could also be for noise reduction which I don't care about.

Re: Under hood Insulation

My main concern was the heat. I bought a qt. of high heat black paint just in case. I'll just spray several coats of that. Thanks for your reply.

Re: Under hood Insulation

Thanks for your answer. I was looking at some discussions online and it seems to be some for and some think it isn't necessary. I think I'll just repaint it and move on.

Under hood Insulation

I assume my 59 Galaxie had insulation under the hood at one time. Does it need to be replaced? If so with what? I'm not making a "show car" just a driver so I really don't care about the appearance.

Re: Spark Plug Wires

I guess I'll have to ask what the length of the wires are in a universal set before ordering. That seems to be the best way to go without making up my own set from scratch. Thanks for all the replies.

Re: Spark Plug Wires

I've seen some wires on line that show one end open but they never give the lengths of the wires. The one for #5 cylinder is almost 4' long. The already made up ones I ordered locally never had one...

Re: Spark Plug Wires

If I get a universal set or use bulk wire how do I put the ends on? Do I need a special crimper? How well do they stay on?

Spark Plug Wires

After ordering wires 2 times from local parts stores and having them totally wrong length I need some recommendations for the correct ones. I have a '59 Galaxie with 292 engine. Everything is stock.

Re: Strange 292 head problem

I did see an 060 on top of the pistons which I assume is .060 oversize.

Re: Strange 292 head problem

Will the difference in comp. ratio cause a noticeable performance drop?

The numbers I see are ECL6090 with an "A" over top of the 0 . Other number 4BA.

Re: Strange 292 head problem

530031 All of the top bolts look like this. This is without the washers. They go in fine until they get to the top larger part of the bolt.

Re: Strange 292 head problem

Thanks Kultulz. I saw the replies on the other site. I contacted Ted today and he gave me a time to sign up tonight. It's not really off that much so I think I'll use the other guys suggestion and...

Re: Strange 292 head problem

With the washer installed there is 3/16 of the large portion of the shank below the cap that scrapes the side of the hole. I think I'll just open the hole in the area that causes the interference a...

Re: Strange 292 head problem

The other head fits good. On this one the bottom (short bolts) are aligned good and go right in with no interference. It's the top bolts that all scrape the front of the holes on the head. It fits...

Strange 292 head problem

Re: Spark Plugs

Thanks for your reply. I had the AM radio repaired and am going to reinstall. For now I plan to keep the points and standard coil. I guess I need to get some resistor wires also.

Spark Plugs

I thought I read somewhere that a 292 with points and a resistor should use non resistor plugs. Seems the recommended plug for this engine is Autolite 46 which is listed as a resistor plug. What...
