That stuff Goodyear puts on can be a pain to get off. I found that pot cleaning pads work good. Won't harm the whitewall. Use Dawn dish soap to lube the pad with generous amount of water.

I take them apart and use carb cleaner and brake cleaner with fine steel wool. Blow everything out with air.

It can be really difficult to find replacement filters for some of the old ones that were used. I gave up and continue to clean the one I have.

The outlet for the vacuum wiper is 3" above the carb/manifold flange and faces outward directly toward the fender. I also have a fitting above that which is on the top of the manifold. I imagined...

I agree with the two previous posts. I used a heavy screw driver to spread the shoes while trying to snap the shoe inward. Your shoes are not seated right.

The wedge adjusting shafts might be the issue. Each pair must be equal length and free to move. The tips that hit the wedge cannot be worn, neither can the pins or holes in the break shoes that fit...

The addition of the Power Jet in the B carb makes a world of difference to an A's performance. The engine no long has to rely solely on the GAV for extra gas.

With your gas line shut off and with a working float valve, only a little gas will come out at first when the drain plug is removed.
