Re: 1936 Gear oil in Clamshell

UPDATE…
The info I received from this post was invaluable. I ended up removing the engine and tranny together, opened the gear box and found that the transmission rebuilder before I bought the car...

Re: 1936 Gear oil in Clamshell

Okay, so you find it easier to pull the motor and tranny as a unit rather than pulling the rear end back and then removing the transmission?
Thanks for your guidance

Re: 1936 Gear oil in Clamshell

Thanks! This is a big relief. So it sounds like you’re saying the rear bearing can be removed without dropping the transmission? I was thinking the bearing was pressed onto the shaft and I wasn’t...

Re: 1936 Gear oil in Clamshell

Thanks for the picture. After seeing this, I’m wondering if my slinger is completely missing. Something doesn’t look right with mine

Re: 1936 Gear oil in Clamshell

Here is a picture of the inside of my case looking towards the rear. Is the slinger installed backwards on mine?

Re: 1936 Gear oil in Clamshell

Ted, you may be right. I may be overthinking this. Maybe I’ll just let it leak out a bit and let it find its happy spot. Then recheck the level. I just see a lot of folks saying the fill level needs...

Re: 1936 Gear oil in Clamshell

Well, I tried replacing the gaskets and seal in the clamshell and unfortunately the problem persists. In fact, it seems to be getting worse. So it looks like I’ll be pulling the reared back and...

Re: 1936 Gear oil in Clamshell

Update. I was hoping that maybe a new gasket and torquing the castle nuts to spec would solve my problem, but the leak persists. Guess I’m pulling that rear axle and torque tube. Grrr

Re: 1936 Gear oil in Clamshell

I’ve used Corn Head grease through the grease fitting, but my issues is the 600 weight oil coming from the back of the transmission and settling in the clamshell. From the comments above, this sounds...

1936 Gear oil in Clamshell

Hi all,

I’m hoping you give me some good news, but I’m not optimistic. I’ve had a chronic gear oil leak behind my gear box and around the clamshell. I installed a new seal and double paper gasket....

CB Antenna issues

Hello all,

Trying to install a CB in my 6 V positive ground Model A. I’m just using it for an upcoming tour, so I’m hooking the CB up to a 12 volt batter from my lawn tractor to avoid all the...

Re: 1936 sedan trunk back convert questions

Thank you 38 Coupe. Yes, I do have this booklet, but it’s hard to see the illustrations. Was hoping someone had actual photos of their boot on the car

1936 sedan trunk back convert questions

Hi everyone, still sorting out items on my recently acquired sedan convertible. Pretty sure the top will need to be replaced because it sat for many years. In spite of the top looking good, it is...

Re: 1936 clamshell removal

Project is complete. Learned that the last person to remove the clamshell did not put the two paper gaskets in place. Took it for a drive and still had a couple of drops on the floor pan. Hoping it...

1936 clamshell removal

Question.
Does the front floor need to come out to get to the universal joint clamshell assembly? Is there a link to instructions for this process? Thanks!

Stripped Columbia house

Hello all,

Still sorting out little issues with my newly acquired 36 Sedan Convertible and I have a new question. This car has sat for about 9 years as far as I can tell, after a full off frame...

Re: 36 passenger door fitment

Thanks to everyone. I am planning to replace the bolts with flat head countersinking bolts. If that doesn’t work, I’ll remove the striker and mill the backside so it isn’t so high

Re: 36 passenger door fitment

I wonder if those two bolts heads are supposed to be flat rather than rounded on the latch? It almost appears that the door is hitting those two bolts heads

36 passenger door fitment

This forum has been invaluable to me so far. Lots of great advice. I now have a new question on my recently purchased 36 4 door sedan convertible.
How can I adjust the front passenger door forward?...

Re: 36 oil/grease leak

I guess it’s possible it was over greased. As far as the torque tube goes…are you saying that rear end gear lube enters the torque tube? I’m not real knowledgeable about that setup. I’ve mostly had...
