OLD182, You are correct in that a thermostadt does not help keep the engine cooler. It is there so the engine warms up faster and stays above a certain temperature so that it runs more efficiently...

Are you sure it's really broke? I've seen some lugs ovaled out on purpose or a slit sawn through so that a bent egg shaped rim can be fit to a round wheel. Probably not the smartest thing to do but...

Below is a picture of the 4 blade repro I bought in 1989 that is 4 blade, spot welded with rivits and a steel hub. Go figure! :)
