Was driving my Fordor the other day. It started and ran fine the whole trip, but a mile or so from home the ammeter suddenly showed a 15 amp discharge. It normally shows about a 4-6 amp charge when...

Re: Distributor Question

Once you set the timing of a distributor you don't have to re-time it as long as you do not loosen and move the cam. You can remove and replace the distributor without re-timing.

Re: Distributor wiring

The only issue with the lower plate is the pigtail connector that flexes as the upper plate moves with the spark advance. Over many years, the insulation can break and the pigtail can short out...

Re: Vacuum advance dist. for Model A

I never understood the need for vacuum advance until I researched it yesterday after seeing this thread. I always figured an engine develops its highest vacuum when the throttle is closed or...

Re: Luck Selling on this Site?

Someone listed something I was interested in so I sent a private message with some questions. He never responded. Not even a sorry, it's been sold. If you're going to list something, be a good egg...

Re: Model A

The repro starter switch contacts are made from copper, which isn't as springy as the original, which were made of a brass alloy. Sometimes a spark will arc between the stud on the starter and the...

Re: Favorite "A" Body Style

Everyone loves the sportiness of a roadster, but as for touring, there's no beating a Fordor.

Re: horn wiring. '31

That might be a bandaid fix when the horn is weak when the engine isn't running. When the engine is running the horn is wired directly from the generator cut out, so it would be getting full voltage...

Re: Backfire

Are you running a Tilotson carb? The pot metal used in the Tillys tends to warp. Heat exacerbates the warping. You may be opening up a gap at the mating surface between the carb and intake...

Re: mixing brake shoe linings

I have two Model As, both with cast iron drums. One has bonded, one has woven. I can lock up the rear wheels on both. The one with the woven linings has a somewhat softer pedal feel. That's...

Re: My 1928 A Tudor steers very hard What ca I do?

You have to check each moving part in the steering for binding. A common area are the balls on the ends of the pitman arm and the steering arms. They can get flattened out from wear, and people...
