Re: 88 Ford Ranger
If I'm not mistaken, '88 was the last year for carburators before EFI took over in '89. Sounds to me like junk in the gas tank is bunching up around the sock and starving out the carb for gas, but...

Re: I got a good laugh at AutoZone today.
I had a '51 Ford Deluxe 4-dr sedan in the late '70's that had a rear window wiper. The wiper arm was gone but the hud stuck out of a professionally punched hole in the rear window trim and the wiper...

Re: '54 Ranch Wagon Window Channel
If you did indeed lose it, you can use the one you have as a pattern to make a new one for the other side. You might be able to get galvanized metal strips at the hardware store (try to get same gage...

Re: Cut out brace or not?
Can't tell from that photo what you mean, but all '55/56 Ford front floor braces on both side of transmission hump kinda sag in the middle and slope upward toward the trans hump. That's not any kind...

Re: 55s
Dang, those look humongous. Guess you'd need to rethink your speedo driven gear teeth if you were planning to use those.

Re: Remember When
I would suspect either way it could be quite damaging.
Suppose your front yoke pulled out of the trans tail shaft just as you stomped on it. For a split second the driveshaft would be flailing...

Re: Headlight breaker
I had a '57 with that breaker under the dash but never knew what it was originally for. A previous owner disconnected the wiring from it and bypassed it altogether.
Sorry I couldn't be of help.

Re: Cut out brace or not?
Sandblast the rust out of the top side of the brace, then vacuum out and wipe down with cleaning solvent. Paint top side with POR or other rust preventative coating. Punch holes in the flanges (that...

Re: Remember when
It appears they used 1964 Chebby bronze. The streets were littered with millions of Biscayne's and Impala's that had that color on them. But back then, it was just base enamel. It is the clear-coat...

Re: 55s
That depends. Those cars in the dealer photo don't even exist anymore. They went to the crusher decades ago. No money there.
Some of us own a couple of '55's in fairly good shape (including my '55...

Several decades ago, I worked at an engineering company in Houston Texas and on our team was a guy about my same age who's last name was Nowak. He noticed I drove to work everyday in my '55 Ford...

Re: 1954 Ford wiper knob
Maybe you should try the T-Bird repro parts suppliers. The '55 Bird had the same knobs with the chromed cap. The '55 passenger cars all had same black knob without the chromed cap in the center....

Re: 57 Merc Steering Wheel>>>57 Ford Column
Not sure, but I think you may need to use '58/59 Ford horn contact plate that goes directly under the steering wheel and mounted in the steering hub. Those had the horn wire terminal routed thru a...

Re: handbrake on my '56 Country Sedan
As I recall, if you install spring backward, it can't stop the notched rail, so thew rail just falls back down in the housing. Just pull it out and redo spring right and test it again. This time you...

I doubt very much that the painted engine block is insulating ground from the distributor. You may notice that the bottom of the dizzy has a collar that sits on top, but under that is still a thick...

Fomoco made rocker adjusting studs with locknuts for the '54 thru '56 model years. In '57, they went to a combo resistance fit stud with integral bolt head. Obviously, the '57 and later are easier to...

Re: Crestline Steering Wheel
I'm pretty sure that 4-spoke wheel was only offered special on certain Crestliners in '52 and '53. I've never seen one in a '54, but that doesn't mean they didn't offer them. If so, probably would...
