Re: V8 Engine

Don't the V860's use a special starter? I don't really know, but most other components are different. If so, it could be a problem. just a heads up.

Re: Shoutout to Petehoovie!

Thanks "Coop", I thought I was the only one here that thought that way.

BTW, welcome back.

Re: Compression and flow

I like your way of thinking; especially the last paragraph. Lately, I have found that if you can get the quench right, everything else follows and little extra work is required. There are exceptions,...

Re: V8 Engine

I ran a marginal starter for years on my '51. it always started (sometimes just barely) so the old "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mindset prevailed. In 2016, I pt a new engine in the car and in...

Re: V8 Engine

Make sure all of the factory grounds (battery to block, block to frame, frame to body) are present and working while you're at it.

Re: Iron vs. Aluminum 21 stud heads - which is better?

This the result of "Galvanic Corrosion". A little knowledge of chemistry and some sacrificial magnesium anodes goes a long way to minimize this.

Re: Iron vs. Aluminum 21 stud heads - which is better?

From my experience, serviceable aluminum heads are much harder to find and a lot more expensive if you do.

The post quoted was about four cylinder engines. From what I know, there are a several...

Re: 53 convert

A couple of sources I have had success with for odd-ball stuff like this are Southside Obsolete ("barndfind08" on this forum) and Shoebox Central, who seem to have a bunch of used parts...

Re: Flathead 8 and power brakes.

I'm curious; what is your reasoning behind this statement?

A good running flathead makes plenty of vacuum (>20 inches). Is there a difference between 6 volt vacuum and 12 volt vacuum?

Re: 32 Ford PIckup Wind Noise

I think that's the way Henry built them. 40 mph in a '32 pickup? I don't think they planned on that.

Re: Seen on Facebook

That's a pretty accurate representation of an early fifties Ford Pickup. I'm impressed, as they usually end up as a generic lump.

Re: 12V ‘35 Battery charged starter won’t turn over.

It could also be a bad battery. A lot of times, batteries will take what is called a "surface charge" and test good with no load on them. They still will not have enough power to start the car. The...

Re: 91 birthday today

Happy Birthday as well, Ron. It's always a pleasure reading your posts. (I think the 258 ci flathead is a good combination too!)

I wish you many more!:)

Re: What spring rate should I set with stock springs and an 8CM camshaft

We need more information. Cam selection is as much about vehicle type and intended use as it is about engine modifications.

Re: What spring rate should I set with stock springs and an 8CM camshaft

I still think the Isky springs would be fine. If you ain't gonna use them I'll take 'em off your hands.:D

Re: Change from 16 inch wheels to 15 inch wheels

Check the date codes on the tires. Radials (from the sizes you provided) get kind of "iffy" after 10 years. Who knows how old they were when installed 11 years ago?

It's probably time for new...

Re: What spring rate should I set with stock springs and an 8CM camshaft

Why do you say the Isky 185 springs are "way too stiff"? I have used them with an Iskendarian "MAX-1" which is not much more than an 8CM with no problems.

Re: Oil Pressure Sender... 6v & 12v

Ford senders DO NOT work by "resistance". They operate on the "King-Seeley" principle that uses bi-metal strips and points that open and close at changing frequencies. Thus is why folks get weird...

Although the second statement is true, I don't know about the first.

Re: NOS 8RT camshaft

Looks to me to be the same as an 8BA cam (.307 lift). However, we can't be sure without the duration numbers. Have you checked out the chart on "Tilden Cam Technologies"?

Re: Swapping Engines

Looks aside, Ford engineers improved the 8BA in several ways over the earlier units. Cooling probably being the most significant. If you replace the stock "Load-a-Matic" distributor with a Mallory...
