Re: 1936 Ford rearend gear ratio and speed

I have had numerous 1936 through 1940 Fords. My overall favorite gear ratio is the 3:78. Plenty good "off the line" and cruising at 55 or so is never an issue.
I currently have a '36 roadster with...

Re: Tips On Installing Stock Exhaust Pipes

If Mike (3rd gen) said they are NOS - they are NOS.

I asked about the NOS as many repop pipes are super poor quality.
That front pipe has a tight fit against the frame in one or two places...

Are you 100% certain you have NOS pipes?

Re: Rust Oleum spray cans

Guys, I started this thread to see if it was a personal issue - the trouble I'd been having.
Apparently it is widespread.
And, while a number of you guys have found ways to overcome this issue, me?...

Re: Trick to remove OFF ON ignition plate

Speaking with a LOT of experience...
Forget about damaging the original plate. You're going to replace it anyway.
I use a tack remover specifically designed for upholstery work.
You are removing...

Re: F1 truck MC bench bleed

Tubman, you are correct... it is not necessary on a single chamber master.

Re: How much play (movement) should there be in a gen pulley?

Can you post a photo of the generator?
Some pulleys required a clip at the end of the armature shaft. That clip is very oft times absent.
There's really no "good" reason this continues to happen...

Re: '37 Ford all locked up

I tend to agree with you alan but why no headlamps? two issues reared up simultaneously?

Re: Spring clamp torque value?

Lawson, I agree with you in part.
There is "good enough" and many times, that's just what it is - "good enough".
Then there is "done correctly" which will always be just that - done correctly....

Re: '37 Ford all locked up

Methodically....that 's my approach.

Jump the starter direct from a battery. A 12v. will do for now. Keep the ignition off, car in neutral. You don't want to start it, just see if the starter...

Re: 1938 Woodie - closing gap in wood frame

My guess, and only a guess, is one or more pieces never fit very well together. There's no "adjustment" back there.

Without having that panel in my hands, I can't say for certain whether or not it...

Re: '36 spare tire cover seal won't fit

I'd installed a Carpenter seal a few months ago. It was rubber - not foam, and fit wonderfully.

Re: 1940 Ford Engine splash pans?

Here's two photos to make it easy for ya. These are both the 85/90 pans as well as the 60 pans.
Note the small "cut out" on the right 85/90 pan... that's '40 only. 1939 pans did not have that cut...

Re: 1940 Ford Engine splash pans?

Bill,
The 85 and 90 pans in 1940 were identical. Still, I have no clue what the pans in your photo are for. While the pan with the "bend" in it ( the longer pan) may fit a '40, it is NOT correct....

Re: 40 rear motor mount

1939 is nearly identical and would be perfect for your use. '41 and newer are much different.

Re: Pop-up Adds at Bottom of Screen

I like the fact that the $20 may drive away a number of folks. Similar to a door cover charge at nice establishments... that cover charge is meant to discourage certain elements.
Still, $10 may...

Just a guess but methinks that's probably part of the "website update" from a few days ago...

Re: 1939 ford deluxe Grille

There is Jack... not certain any longer if the trim can be swapped between the two grille versions. I think the difference was near the short end(s).

Re: 1939 ford deluxe Grille

Yes, two different versions of the '39 deluxe grille.
I no longer fully trust my memory but seem to recall one has more severely pointed stainless trim - the other rather rounded off tips.
And,...
